Now that the draft is over

Mayhew didn't sign a single new RB in FA. He had 8 draft picks, not one was a RB. He's signed 20 UDFAs, and only one, some dude from PSU, was a RB.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2012/04/detroit_lions_sign_seven_more.html

If he felt like he wanted to upgrade the RB position, don't you think he would've done it by now? FA RBs went for very little (Michael Bush got about $3 mil/year). Plenty of RBs were available late. Could've had a guy like Polk for a 7th. Didn't want it. There are still guys like Hightower, Benson, Brown (who he tried to get last year) available. All better than Dixon. He hasn't sniffed them. What has he done so far to make you think he wants a new RB? Why is that so hard to understand?

And the point about Dixon's YPC average is that he has a good o-line, the other RBs manage better results, but he still can't produce. You can't compare a stat from someone on SF to someone playing behind Det's non-existing run-blocking.

Gore avg 4.3 and Hunter 4.2 and got much more consistent carries...so its not like they lit it up. Again, its much harder to have a good average in spot duty with minimal carries. Dixon would help here...why? Best cant stay on the field and is not a every down back. Leshoure is a gimp who might be suspended 4 games. So were left with Kevin Smith. If youre totally cool with handing Kevin Smith the starting RB roll then go on with your bad self....but im not content and would hope MM isnt either. Polk didnt get drafted because of his condition. Id rather give a younger back a chance than resurrect careers like Benson and Brown. Dixon can be had for cheap and those guys will command a bit more money....money we dont have.

Games where Dixon got 8 or more carries:

Anthony Dixon rushed eight times for 21 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco's Week 17 win over the Rams.
Dixon surpassed three carries for only the third time all season after Frank Gore was benched for rest early in the second quarter, but was badly outplayed by rookie Kendall Hunter, who has firmly established himself as Gore's primary backup. Dixon finishes 2011-12 with 29 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns, numbers he'll be lucky to equal in 2012.

2010:
Anthony Dixon was held to just 22 yards on 11 carries and two yards on one reception against the Cardinals in Week 17.

Anthony Dixon rushed 14 times for 60 yards and added one reception for eight yards against the Seahawks in Week 14.

Anthony Dixon rushed nine times for 33 yards and added one reception for four yards against the Packers in Week 13.

Anthony Dixon gained 54 yards on 14 carries and added a touchdown in the team's Week 12 win over Arizona.

So....you have a hard-on because he earned 54 yards and 60 yards on 14 carries each vs the 2010 Cardinals and Seahawks?

dude, dixon sucks. I watched almost every 49er game last year. He is beyond terrible. He's not even a short yardage back. He has potential for sure, but his first two years, he has not been good. I don't see the harm in bringing him in for a look if he's cut, but outside of that...no.

Thought for sure we would have taken a RB at some point, looking at the 3rd round I wonder if that Fuck ozzie stole the RB we had targeted.

one of the weakest class of RBs that I have ever seen. I'm glad we didn't take a RB.

I thought he was more of a zone RB.

Ravens selected Temple RB Bernard Pierce with the No. 84 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
A touchdown machine during his junior season with 27, Pierce left Temple a year early. He excels in zone concepts, smoothly cutting off one step when seamlessly recognizing running lanes. Pierce's best trait is his balance, breaking plenty of arm tackles without losing speed. However, he does not play at his 4.49 timed speed until he gets in full stride. That lack of burst is apparent when Pierce's immediate running line is blocked or when attempting to miss a tackle in the open field. Pierce offers very little as a receiver.

I'm sure he'll be a stud for Baltimore. Ozzie is the GM in football. Only flaw is his ability to scout QBs. Although, picking late every year, its hard to acquire much better than Flacco.

Thank you. I thought I was going to have to deal with that alone forever....

Don't really know much about him except they traded in front of us. So either they thought we were going to take him or pitt, and if it was to get him before pitt then we must not have been willing to trade back and lose out on that cb we took.

all you do is bitch and tear apart everything everyone has to say....and provide no useful information yourself. Good you wouldnt like Dixon....who would help our gimpy ass RB corps more than anyone you mentioned....WHY??!!! cause you mentioned fucking no one! You bitch and bitch and bitch and give no insight to what you think would help. Brilliant. Take your 600 posts and gtfo.

this is gold, Jerry. GOLD!

Don't forget the some of you wanted Polk in the 4th round and he went un-drafted. Face it, they know more than we do.

According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, Brandon Jacobs was signed in large part because the 49ers "don't have confidence in" Anthony Dixon and view Kendall Hunter as a "change-of-pace" back.
We had already dumped Dixon, owner of a per-carry average of 3.3 in two years, even in deep Dynasty leagues. The 49ers will ditch him next. While we remain high on Hunter's ability, his Dynasty value is capped by the coaching staff's view that he's a complementary back as a opposed to a lead runner.

You ever watch football? Ever?

LOL. Good for the 49ers. Brandon Jacobs is a joke of a so called "power back". The man tiptoes, dances around the line of scrimmage like he's 190lbs. You're 270lbs!! Put your fn head down and hurt someone!! If he's the answer in San Fran, good luck to them, because he's not. He'll be bitching and moaning about playing time before you know it...watch and see.

And this is coming from a Giants fan. I've been through it.

Victor Cruz went undrafted. Nfl don't always get it right.

Not that I'm saying polk will do anything

Heres some names that suck:

Best - more injuries than TDs scored in his career. 1 concussion away from riding the short bus the rest of his life...sucks

Leshoure - more pot arrests than minutes played. Can barely walk...sucks

Smith - averaged 3.4 yds per carry in his last full season (according to lp4ever that means youre shit apparently). Injured every single year...sucks

You might be right, but it would have been a mistake to draft in the 4th round is all I'm saying.

Eh...easy to say looking back, but if Detroit or some other team took him in the 4th we'd never know that whatever team that had selected him in the 4th could have gotten him in the 7th or as an UDFA. Furthermore, it's hard to say what's a mistake at this point. If he has a successful career, Best's brain becomes mashed potatoes, and Leshoure never recovers one could argue that it was a mistake not to take him in the fourth or any other round for that matter.

Maybe we should have taken him in the first then. The point, all teams passed on him for a reason. Whether he does something good or not is irrelevant, it would have been a reach, a far one at that.

Again you can only say that looking back from this point. You're basically arguing the exact opposite with Broyles.

There was a lot of marks on Polk. He carried the ball a lot at Washington, just like K. Smith. He's lazy and his health, dislocated left shoulder in '08 (had surgery), suffered a torn left labrum in 2009 (surgery), arthroscopic knee surgery shortly before the 2011 season with a possible hip injury. At least the things that I heard floating around.
