Octavio Dotel

Good point. Assuming 8th-9th is Benoit and Valverde, a guy like Dotel is fine as a situational righty used in conjunction with situational lefty Coke.

he'll be a lot more expensive than perry. if were gonna get someone like perry, lets stay with the guy who is already cheap.

I'm starting to really realize that if the Tigers are linked to be interested in someone, it either took place awhile ago or they really aren't that interested. DD is sneaky and that trade/signing won't come out until like a few hours before it actually happens

Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal

goddamnit, i dont want him. he cant pitch to lefties! hes also going to be old and expensive. ugh.

Is he better than anyone we currently have? If he is I'm all for it otherwise no.

id say hes basically ryan perry but older and more expensive.

@Spockmaster I'm betting the logic is that he can split the 7th with Coke, giving Tigers two experienced guys to get them to Benoit/Valverde

You have resources. What's the scoop on Daniel Murphy.

:)

Dotel is one of the few free agent Middle relievers who had an acceptable shutdown/meltdown ratio last year: 2.5 (15/6). Anything over 2 is pretty good.

if he cost only like $2 million a year or something it might be a decent signing b/c he and coke probably could together shut down the 7th inning as long as they were used correctly. i just have a feeling its going to cost much, much more than that which makes it not acceptable.
