OFFICIAL: Draft Day (Day One-Three)

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/draft/prospect?prospectId=381167

After deciding to return to Oklahoma instead of heading to the NFL draft, Lewis was injured in the preseason and couldn't match the stellar production from his first three seasons. He also suffered an injury at the NFL combine. Still, one team might take a chance on him in one of the middle rounds because he was one of the all-time leading tacklers for the Sooners. The San Antonio native finished third on the school's all-time list with 445 stops and had 144 of those as a freshman to break Brian Bosworth's school record. He topped 100 each of the next two seasons, but a broken bone in his left foot might have played a part in his drop in production as a senior. Lewis suffered his injury Aug. 9 and sat out until the second game of the season. He finished with 84 tackles in that campaign and collected his fourth all-conference honor, being named to the second team. He was a first-team honoree as a freshman and a sophomore and also was the Big 12 defensive newcomer and defensive freshman of the year. Lewis also set a school record for interceptions by a linebacker with nine and was a four-time academic all-Big 12 performer. He was invited to the NFL scouting combine but pulled out of the drills after reportedly tweaking his hamstring while running a lackluster 4.88 in the 40. He also didn't exactly shine in the bench press either with 22 reps, 14 fewer than teammate Ronnell Lewis, who was a junior. However, Travis Lewis' 122-inch broad jump was good for sixth-best, and he tied for ninth with a 36-inch vertical.

this guy was projected as a 1st round pick last year, but went back to school, had an injury and a down year. IMO steal of the draft for us.

Summary: Travis Lewis is getting a lot of flack for something he shouldn't be getting flack for, and that's his play against the run. He's superb. He isn't 245 pounds, but you don't have to be to have terrific playing strength. I've seen him manhandle offensive linemen and make it look easy on tape. He's a sound tackler and as close to a sure thing as you are going to get for a 4-3 outside linebacker. He won't fit the 3-4 as an outside linebacker because he lacks the size and pure pass rushing talent for the position.

Lewis enters the year with a first-round grade on my board at No. 12 overall and could still move up. I love that he can play both the weakside and strongside in the 4-3 at a very high level, which makes him a very rare prospect.

Player Comparison: Lance Briggs. Briggs is the 4-3 linebacker everyone in the NFL wishes they had if they run that front. Lewis has a similar skill set and talent level

I'm not sure if this is a long day of frustration or you actually like him?

I LOVE this kid! Seriously, I had him as our first round pick last year before he decided to stay in school.

2nd best pick of the week for us.

Wonder when he wrote this?

Thanks for the boner.

here's just the first thing that comes to mind...

"Why did anybody else want him?"

I have been surprisingly happy with the late round picks. They took guys that easily could have gone much higher in other drafts. Travis Lewis was highly touted last year and Ronnel Lewis if he had gone back for his senior year easily could have been a second or first round talent next year. The CB from Albion has a ton of upside according to quite a few scouts. Turning out pretty good.
