Mike Evans. He's behind Watkins right now but if he can run a 40 it might be close. 250 yard plus days vs Bama and Auburn. 6'5 with some money hands so he can't be over thrown. Route running isn't great and he's can't get separation like Watkins, but when he's covered he's open. First year impact will be like Jeffery rather than Green or Jones, needs a year to come into his own at the pro level. Maybe a trade down candidate.

I don't want someone who can't run a route. That's the next important thing after hands.

Says he isn't great at running routes. He would be a great pickup in the late teens if he lasts that long.

That's important though. Roy Williams would have been a better player if he could run a route.

Roy Williams would have been better with a lot of other skill sets. Big WRs are usually not the most crisp route runners.

Nonetheless a bad route runner does nothing if he's covered all the time. We need a guy who can get open and catch a pass, much more valuable than speed..

He's only played 3 years of football, which has to do with his development. But his ceiling is off the charts. The Ziggy Ansah of wideouts, some even compare him to Calvin. Not ideal but like J said great value with a trade down and could be the steal (or bust) of the draft much like Jeffery was perceived to be.

HE's on the radar Mitch but not likely so I doubt we'll have to worry.

As long as he doesn't become Daryl Boston.

Who the fuck is Daryl Boston? The only Daryl Boston I know of played for the White Sox in like the 80's.... Pretty sure you mean David Boston the old OSU wide out who got drafted by the Cardinals top 10.... Your lack of football knowledge never ceases to amaze me Mitch.

Calvin is a terrible route runner by the way.

He was a poor route runner when he came into the league. But he's improved a lot. He's definitely not a terrible route runner. Even Jerry Rice has acknowledged that. http://nesn.com/2013/11/jerry-rice-...-conversation-of-best-nfl-wide-receiver-ever/
"I think [Johnson] has gotten so much better route running, and he doesn?t just rely on his jumping ability anymore,? Rice said. ?That?s why he?s called Megatron. He?s a hell of a lot [to handle] on that football field. Right now he?s had about [63] touchdowns and he?s going strong. I wish him the best. I know what type of work ethic he has. He?s a complete player.?

Thats cool. I didnt know that about Rice taking notice of CJ. I was going off what i heard years ago about Calvin. Like, Ryan Broyles was the best route runner coming into the draft a couple of years ago and Demaryius Thomas will never be a good route runner in Denver. Things i have heard throughout the years. Bottom line, skill, power, work ethic and athleticism trumps all. Mike Evans is a fn monster and he better be on the Lions radar ......6'5" 230lbs ....opposite CJ? Fuck ya

Evans has great size and athletic ability. I haven't researched much about him, so I have no idea about his work ethic. I think he'd obviously be a great weapon for us, but I don't think at this point I'd want us to take him at 10. I'd rather take Sammy Watkins, who is a much better route runner, just as good hands, and has better speed. But like Hughes said, if Evans runs a great 40, that might change.

I'd love to see one of the top 3 WR land in Detroit in May, but honestly, I'd really like to see a guy like Jeremy Gallon get picked somewhere in the middle rounds. I don't know if I'm just being a homer, but I think Gallon would be a nice 3rd or 4th receiver - better than what we have now.

I agree. He's a good route runner and has great hands. Catches almost everything thrown near him, which is an added bonus if Stafford can't improve his accuracy.

Because I typed the wrong first name? You're a tool.

His biggest problem this year was getting open. Not having a legit receiver on the field across from him really hurt once the meat of the schedule kicked in. Double coverage is not something he's going to beat very often and once the D took him away, we couldn't throw the damn ball.

I'd love to see what Sammy Watkins on one side, Megatron on the other and him in the slot with Pettigrew or Fauria would look like.

That'd be great! We'll see what happens.
