Ortiz about Reggie Bush

I agree with the right price part.

However, Bush is more than a compliment and would very much be an impact player in the Lions offense. He is a perfect fit for us.

Put it this way, who would you rather see with the ball in his hands on the swing route, screens and dump downs.......Reggie Bush or Joique Bell?

Don't get me wrong, I understand that his strengths (catching, outside runs) are something the team uses. I'm just pointing out that every time a team banked on him being a difference maker, they ended up disappointed. Bush is a great third down back. In fact, since we utilize RBs so much as check-down options, he might be a 2 down back in our system. Of course, whenever teams see him in the backfield, they'll know they can sell out for the pass/screen.

Bush as a player reflects what we do. And that's worth kicking the tires on. But, he's not good enough as an actual runner to throw starter-sized money at. I think the biggest improvement in signing him would be in the return game. Making a few big plays catching the ball would just be bonus.

Bush had 4.3 YPC and with over 200 carries and 5.0 YPC with over 200 carries in 2011. Miami probably wasn't that disappointed in Bush especially in 2011.

So far your best idea for the Lions in 2013 is to convince everyone it's 2011.

2011 and even 2010 for alot of players shows the Lions have talent. Just because some sucked or regressed in 2012 doesn't mean it's permanent. Play fluctuates and play will fluctuate for the Lions opponents as well. People come back from injury to help(alot in the Lions case). Lions will get help in free agency. Lions will get help in the draft.

The doom and gloom shows you guys are living in 2012 and for some reason don't realize free agency and the draft is coming to help on the Lions not hurt the Lions. 2011 shows the potential plus help is on the way in free agency and the draft.

We'll see how Stafford, Pettigrew, LeShoure, Bell, Reiff, Sims, Raiola, Backus, Burleson, Broyles, Tulloch, Houston, Delmas, Durant, Jackson, Young, Suh and Fairley do this year. Plus any new additions.

Now I know why guys retire early, Jim Brown, Barry, Robert Smith etc. Go out on top of your game.

A bunch of those listed didn't suck.

Overpay for a running back when the oline is the problem. Sounds like a mayhew move to me.

Go get another rb that will take touches away from the round 2 rb you traded up for? Sounds like a mayhew move to me! Guy is a joke....

I agree with cheeno....go spend the money on levitre.

I know but some regressed in play like Stafford, Tulloch and Pettigrew. Alot of key players can and will play better for Detroit and 2012 was an outlier in their careers.

The ones that suck are or will be gone in KVB, Peterman, Levy, Coleman, Florence. Addition by subtraction already for the Lions.

The 2012 0-8 finish was an outlier. The 2013 season will prove me right but the Lions will make moves to help as well.

Speed was the problem too. LeShoure is the workhorse but they need more speed who can also protect the QB.

Reiff instead of Gosder, Nagy over Peterman and Backus/Pettigrew just run blocking better like almost every year but 2012 could be the Oline answer. Sims is fine. Raiola will continue to be a weak link but now at the league min.

So if they get levitre, where does reiff play next year? It seems backus is still best L T option and sounds like they will start fox over reiff at R T so reiff is projected to be the R G. Well if they get levitre, can reiff play center??? Otherwise we wasted a #1 pick by converting him to F B

(sorry for spaces on positions, my phone autocomplete is taking over like the Borg)

Reiff at rt. Fox can go blow himself.

Come on now, fox can still come in to help out if a starter gets injured. He might only last one play before he gets hurt himself, but hey, he was still able to provide depth during the time he was on the field!

I'd rather get levitre than joekel I think. I just don't find the tackles thus year to be as stellar as some others do. Not that I like backus being relied on again, but I'm hoping next year's tackles will be better.

If we have a half-decent record next year, it won't matter if the tackles are better because we'd be in the low to mid teens or higher for our draft pick.

Also, this year's tackles are a pretty good class. Joeckel, Fisher, and Lane Johnson are all solid LTs.

I see all of them as needing time to develop, but that's just me I guess. If they get a tackle,I won't complain, but I will be surprised if they start.

Dashon Goldson is supposed to hit the market. Spend your money on him. The wide nine needs run support safety's more than any other D scheme. Much bigger impact than Bush IMO.

"Possibly referring to Goldson 49ers GM Trent Baalke said, "you can't pay everybody, and you certainly can't pay everybody when you overpay others."

Or pretty much the opposite view Mayhew is taking with Avril.

This pretty much sums up my opinion on Reggie Bush which I am pretty much resigned to the fact we are getting.

with the lack of RB talent in the draft (speed backs specifically), i don't have an issue giving Bush a 2 year deal at a fair price. if he works out, great, if not, get yet another RB next year and hopefully there will be better speed backs available. at least Bush is a veteran who has had a few wake up calls so he no longer has the prima donna bug as bad as he had it out of college. lions could do worse, that's for certain, and plugging any hole even with an average guy is better than the street guys we have been using.

What do you consider a fair price?

id rather pay a 3rd rd speed back 300k to suck than reggie bush 3 mil to suck. Walter Payton wouldn't be able to run in this offense. Give it up already. Fix the problem....don't keep changing the rb and wondering why nothing is getting fixed.
