OT: Braun tested positive for banned substances

They said they knew 1 month before he was even given the MVP...which is absolute bullshit that it wasnt reported prior to voting.

voting is done immediately after the season ends, so he had already won by then. it just doesnt get announced till november.

Can still chose to not give him the award.

What Braun can never, ever buy with all of his millions is a brand-spanking fresh, new and clean reputation, along with the respect, admiration and honor that go with it, from many if not most of his team's fanbase, as well as and esp. most MLB fans nation-wide.

When his Ryan appears or is announced from now on in the media or when he comes to the plate and upon the field, he will instantly be remembered as a "dirty" player and esp after he returns from his ban during next season. The fans in the stands in the ballparks that his team plays in will rain down the boos, catcalls, and shouts of "MDP" (most dirty player) will rain down on Braun during each and every game that he plays in.

If a second test came up clean, what are the odds that the first test came back in error? or the second one for that matter. One of them can't be correct.

and that is not meant to defend Braun...but to question the veracity of the testing process. How often is there a false positive or false negative?

MLB might as well stop testing and just tell all of the fans everyone is on the juice...enjoy our product!

He's quilty. Quote from a spokesman for Braun: "There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program. While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated."

The bolded part. He didn't say there was no way he took peds, he said "..absolutely no intention" -- which means he's pulling a Bonds and saying I'm not sure how it got in me. It was an accident.

The second test was from another place, not sure what it means but he's quilty.

The positive result was triggered by elevated levels of testosterone in Braun's system, the sources told "Outside the Lines." A subsequent, more comprehensive test revealed the testosterone was synthetic -- not produced by Braun's body.

Every individual naturally produces testosterone and a substance called epitestosterone, typically at a ratio of 1-to-1. In Major League Baseball, if the ratio comes in at 4-to-1 or higher during testing, a player is deemed to have tested positive. The sources did not indicate how high above the threshold Braun's sample tested.

To affirm the results and strengthen its case, MLB asked the World Anti-Doping Agency lab in Montreal, which conducts its testing, to perform a secondary test to determine whether the testosterone spike resulted from natural variations within Braun's body or from an artificial source. The test indicated the testosterone was exogenous, meaning it came from outside his body.

Fuck him and fuck all of these guys with their "not intentional" bullshit. What happened to just lifting weights, doing cardio and eating a healthy diet? Why do these guys think they all have to take supplements, pills, powders and everything else and then claim they didn't know what was in it? Don't take anything. Eat healthy foods, lift weights and exercise.

This is really a bummer if true.. i thought the sport was getting cleaned up..

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports hears from a source that Braun tested positive for a prohibited substance, not a performance-enhancing drug. Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was told the same thing, with his source saying there's "never" been a result like this since MLB's drug testing program began.

Braun didn't take PED.
from wisconsinjournalsentinel

But my source -- and again, this is from Braun's end and not MLB -- familiar with the test's findings says the "prohibited substance" was not a performance-enhancing drug or steroid of any kind. And the source says there has "never" been a result like this in the history of the MLB testing program.
The source said MLB "knows that Ryan is telling the truth" and that source firmly believes the postive test will be overturned.

baseball's new CBA contains a provision stating that if a player tests positive for a banned substance, the drug will be publicly announced. The Players' Union could contest the announcement, as Braun's test was conducted under the old CBA, which prevented that information from becoming public. Experts say that false positives are nearly impossible under the carbon-isotope testing performed by WADA. Ultimately, Passan from yahoo says it's unlikely Braun's appeal will stand, and we'll probably learn which substance Braun tested for.

So what is going to cause a positive test then?
