OT : James Harrison

Boogerlovejoy,

You played football? You must have played offense..lol. You're taught to lead with the forehead of your helmet. Tuck your neck in and drive the offensive player into the dirt. NEVER lower your head. That's a way too fuck yourself up big time. Football is a game of RE-ACTION, especially when you're a defensive player. Harrison's job is to kill the QB. McCoy was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He ran up to the line of scrimmage. How is Harrison supposed to know what his intentions are? Harrison REACTED and layed out McCoy. Mission accomplished.

Who the F taught you to tackle?? Where do you think the phrase "lower your shoulder" came from. You lower your shoulders, keep your head up, and drive through a players chest.

You DON'T run straight up and, just before impact, slightly lower your head and leave your feet. Harrison had a clean look at McCoy and chose to hit him like an idiot. He deserves any fine he gets.

Google "football tackling images" and see what pops up. There is not ONE picture that shows a hit like Harrisons. There are a lot of images of "form" tackling though....guys driving through the midsection of the offensive player.

Listen, I don't like all the personal foul BS that the National Fagina League seems to be favoring.....but this rule has been in place a few years now. Time for some guys to wise up.

Thanks. At least someone gets it.

Another overblown junk call. McCoy was a runner IMO. He certainly looked like he was going to run. Was it a late hit or illegal hit anyway, maybe. But no way should he get suspended.

Agreed. No suspension. Just a hefty fine. Very hefty in Harrisons case.

Peter King said he thinks he serves a fine and NO suspension. He said because McCoy took so many steps that it is believable that Harrison tretaed him like a runner. We'll see how his past affects his future.

My Highschool coaches and my AKO coach and All-World LB's taught me how to tackle, buddy. It's real simple, you try and get lower than the ball carrier and lead with your fn helmet. Tuck you neck in with your eyes looking forward and lower the boom with your helmet. You never lower the head because that's risky towards injuries.Think about it, when a runner is running towards you, he's lowering his head to run you over. Good luck putting a shoulder on a kid whose leading with his bucket...lol. Good bye, shoulder.

Now, i know the facemask to facemask hit was a penanlty. I get it. I don't necessarily agree with it, but it is what it is, right? If Harrison would have done the EXACT same thing but went for his abdominal or chest area, this conversation wouldn't even take effect. Agreed?

Keep in mind that both players (McCoy and Harrison) are shorter dudes and they're both trying to get low. One of them has to win and it's usually the 240 lb LB over the 185 lb QB, right?

as expected.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the NFL is expected to hand down OLB James Harrison's suspension on Tuesday morning, for an illegal hit on Colt McCoy in last Thursday's win over Cleveland.
Harrison told reporters that he anticipated no suspension, but it's almost certainly coming. Schefter has reported that the league is weighing whether to suspend Harrison one or two games. We don't expect him to play in Week 15.

i heard the fine is going to be $100,000 lol...ridiculous.

NFL should give all QBs tampons to carry in their back pocket....and if the tampon ever hits the ground then a fine should be given to the defender that hit them.

I wonder if the good people of Pittsburgh are fed up with Harrison's actions on the field? I wonder if they want his nuts in a vice? I wonder if they're burning Harrison jerseys and telling spooky campfire stories of the monster named Harrison from the 'Burgh? Pittsburgh dwellers knows what it's like to struggle, just like Detroiters. Are they demanding an apology? Because they didn't get one........

Steelers fans love that shit. The only guy they hate is Big ben but that defense could start committing murders on the field and they would just yell about the steel curtain. They dont ask for apologies because they know that having a guy be feared is their MO. Harrison reminds them of the good ole days.

Absolutely right. The fans of Pittsburgh love Harrison. Hell, I love him. I'm sure they don't want him missing a game, though personally I didn't think he deserved a suspension, but they love that kind of play.

It surprises me so many fans of Lions football have a huge problem with Suh. Enough that people are making a mountain out of a mole hill with his fender bender.

Face it. He barely touched the OL. Not like he did a Dave Rozema karate chop.

lol i always liked harrison's comments though...he acts like he's the only hard hitter/good defensive player in the league...there is a way to play like that and not get penalized as much as he does....take a majority of good defensive players and watch them....

IMHO, which obviously means jack, if the QB is outside the pocket to the point where they can throw it away without being called for Intentional Grounding, then they should lose the over-protection they receive when being in the pocket. Essentially, move outside the tackles to point you can throw it away and you simultaneously fall under the category equivalent to being a runner. If the NFL were to use this more refined approach it would be far more fair for the D who are trying to tackle a "runner" who at the very last moment throws the ball when the D is viewing him as potentially running for yardage. To me, that is the only thing that makes sense. To further my argument, McCoy could have done the "don't touch me slide" and Harrison would have likely pulled up. Maybe not, but there would be far fewer people viewing this as a BS ruling as any sane person looking at that play and putting themselves in Harrison's spot would be viewing him as a runner. Not that I'm a fan of Harrison cuz I absolutely HATE the Steelers and will never be sad to see a Steeler miss a game, I look at it from the perspective that this very thing could happen to the Lions with similar or worse fines and suspensions which is BS.
