OT : Marlins make Albert 10 year offer.

Marlins look better to me than the Cards right now.

1. Carpenter getting up there
2. Wainright coming off long injury.
3. Larussa retired.
4. Holiday chronic injury?
5. Berkman a free agent?

Marlins are looking pretty serious, especially if Johnson stays healthy.

Let the Marlins go and grab all the big FA's again, win a WS, then we can pick em up cheap after the fire sale.

Pujols is said to want a no trade clause for the full 10yrs. ::)

From 2008-2010, NY only paid $50.7 Mil, where TEX paid $21.32 while he played for NYY.
Yep, but NYY was stupid enough to up his deal once more and foot the entire bill from here on out. ARod is a good player, but that deal is awful.

Beyond that, Miami ain't the Yankees either. New York has sooooo much more revenue that it's ridiculous. They can actually afford to have a terrible deal like that. Miami is gonna turn big-time, but they are never gonna be the Yankees.

What's with calling them Miami?

Its not a surprise he'd be getting huge offers like this with lots of years attached. He's Albert "freakin" Pujols.

They changed their name to the Miami Marlins to go with their new stadium and got new uniforms as well.

Right.

Meaning that because they have to keep Pujols and his huge contract, everyone else would have to go.

Really? Hmm.

Looks like the Marlins hope to catch lightning in a bottle for the 3rd time and win another World Series within a short period of time. Only this time I dunno about them maybe doing just that, then tearing it all down, and dumping salary the following year IF they manage to win it all. I think that they will want to remain contenders for at least awhile this time around, with a new stadium, not to mention perhaps having trouble trading overpaid stars, other than to perhaps the AL Yankees or Red Sox. They also might see some stiff NL competition from at least the Cubs AND the Nationals, who both look like they have their own plans to dive pretty deeply into the gaudy overpay for All-Star type FA pool. Some capable and "talented" MLB players who are within a year or two of becoming FAs might want to try having career seasons soon, b/c it looks like at least some of them could really cash in and for long term on the buying bonanza.

mlbnetwork earlier tonight said something about needing 2.8 million for attendance and having a solid nuclesu with these players will give them a better chance of keeping the fan interest.
They might be done with tearing their team apart anymore after winning a world series, in this new scenario of new stadium and a big splash in FA.
That no trade for Pujols, if not for 10 years, they could give him for 5 years, which would still give him 10/5 status.

Do the Marlins ever get 2.8 million in attendence? Not sure a new stadium will make people come.

Thanks but no way they get 2.8. Especially with the obvious price increase that will inevitably happen.

Maybe they should rip-off the LA Angels of Anaheim's idea & name the team the Ft. Lauderdale Marlins of Miami, since I read somewhere awhile back, where that is the city of many, if not most Marlins fans reside..heh!!!

Personally I think the Angels have a legit shot at him.. I think Pujols wants to play in a bigger market in Miami where he can be marketable.. Miami will get some seriously revenue this year, but I doubt they will have record attendance either.. BUt Miami is really making a serious push for everyone that puts the Yankees to shame..

well, their payroll was only 57 million this last season so as long as the owner is willing to dump the money in, they could probably add quite a bit of payroll, maybe even on top of what theyve already added.

edit: they being the marlins

update to the rumors: a source says its down to the cards and marlins "period" and that a decision could come before sunrise.
