Slay's bruised hands were "self inflicted"

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay missed Thursday's open OTA practice due to what his coach, Jim Caldwell, described as "self-inflicted" bruises on both of his hands.

Slay, who is arguably the team's top cornerback, attended practice and had his hands wrapped. He participated in some non-contact drills without a helmet and shadowed the team's other starting cornerback, Rashean Mathis, in others.

"Got a few bruises that were self-inflicted," Caldwell said, "but nevertheless, he's out for a couple of days."

WTF? Fight or punching a wall. Dope!

I took the data from a site, filtered out everyone with less than 48 catches, then sorted from highest drop rate % to the lowest. Perhaps I did state it backwards, and can see the confusion, but the results are still the same, 75% were worse than CJ. Calvin was credited with 3 drops and 71 completions. 2.3% drop rate.

Worse was Sanu at 9.2%

Edit: I need to re-look at this. Drop rate was based on Targets it appears after look more closely at the data. This would give calvin a bit of a decrease in % because of how many wild ass targets he receives.

Edit 2: When looking at drop per reception Calvin ranks 52 out of 82 better than 63.4% of the individuals with more than 48 receptions. He had 1 drop per 23.7 catches.

Sanu is still the worst at 1 drop per 6.2 catches.
Tate was 8th best at at 1 drop per 49.5 catches.
Fitzgerald was best at 0 drops and 63 catches.
Keenan Allen was second at 1 drop and 77 catches.

That sounds about right. Calvin has really good hands.....not great. He makes great catches, though. Two different things. We forgive the drops because he's CALVIN FUCKING JOHNSON. It's similar to forgiving Barry Sanders for losing 3 yards occasionally because he was "dancing" around trying to find a hole.

Fitz has amazing hands. Clearly.

If Ebron starts making plays like he did in college.....and as Hughes mentioned....we give him a chance to run a few seam routes......I will forgive a few drops here and there.

Yes you forgive Calvin for drops considering how dangerous he is and he still produces at a high level even with the drops. But you also forgive Stafford's comp % too for all these drops. Calvin (worst in 2013 due to finger issues), Ebron, Bush, Pettigrew (years past).

you don't pick a guy in the top 10 to be Brandon Pettigrew. Especially when you resigned Brandon Pettigrew. So I can care less if Ebron starts catching more passes if all they are going to be is a 6 yard curl route 100 times a game. You pick ebron in the top 10 to be an impact player. So I hope we start to see him as the down field threat that he was advertised to be. If not....you were better off with Pettigrew on the field since you can better mask what you were doing pass vs run, have a better blocker on the field at all times, and theres no one better at running a 6 yard curl than Brandon Pettigrew.

I gotta say it...

Barry did not run for negative three "on occasion".The guy is the all time leader in negative yards from scrimmage for a reason.

He ran for negative yards all the damned time. Constantly. He had 336 carries for negative yardage.

But when he took off, no one was catching him. When you thought you had him, he teleported 7 yards sideways and took of some more. And if you had a bead on him, he would make you do the Lord's Payers and while you were on your knees clapping at the air, he was in the end zone calmly tossing the ball to an official.

We forgive the negative yards because he had 952 of them, 15,296 of them headed in the right direction.

Teleported 7 yards sideways, lol.

Barry had the most entertaining negative yard runs. Any other RB, people woukd shout WTF ARE YOU DOING....

But with Barry, when he ran backwards, people woukd actually lean into the TV with anticipation of him potentially making the entire D look foolish. It was an anticipation equal to a kid on Xmas morning who just had The Big One placed in front of them. Sure, sometimes the giver played a joke and put socks or underwear in The Big One, but that never decreased the feeling of anticipation when the next Big One was put in front of you. You couldn't help but get excited by the yet unknown result of what might be....

I just hope he wasn't beating up on his ol' lady.

Not to nitpick your post Ink......but the number going the right way would have been 16,248.

Just, FYI.

Either way.......this!!

THE RUN happens @ 1:50

My favorite Barry Sanders run ever comes at 2:35. You can actually "see" him see the opening and the pure explosion happens right after that. No moves in that run......just pure vision and what might be the NFL's best ever acceleration!! Just AWESOME.

Erik Kramer, Rodney Peete, Andre Ware, Scott Mitchell, Dave Krieg, Don Majowski, Charlie Batch, etc.

Are you suggesting that Terry Fair was not a good CB?

(Quick trivia answer. Fair was the Lions pick at #20 in '98.......#21?????......Minnesota Vikings took Randy Moss)

you could argue terry fair and Bryant westbrook were our best drafted cbs in the last 20 years. Sad....

Yep. sad. As far as Moss, everyone saw small school. Many teams passed..Too bad because Herman's Moore's last good season, last healthy season was in '98.
