OTA's

Yep. sad. As far as Moss, everyone saw small school. Many teams passed..Too bad because Herman's Moore's last good season, last healthy season was in '98.

Moss was because he had major character red flags and was kicked out of Florida State for violating a probabtion for smoking weed. Wasn't just small school.

you could argue terry fair and Bryant westbrook were our best drafted cbs in the last 20 years. Sad....

I really liked Westbrook. He had a tough first couple of years......but was really playing well when he got hurt.

You just didn't come back from completely torn Achilles injuries then. I think he would have ended up being a pro bowl corner.

Same....I was very excited when we took him. I loved him in college. Still sad we haven't groomed anyone in the secondary since then. Hopefully Slay can continue to improve like he did last year and be a consistent reliable starter for us moving forward.

In the Lions defense....they did address an aging WR corp by drafting Germaine Crowell in the 2nd round in 1998. He also had his career derailed by injuries. One great year in 1999.....then couldn't stay on the field.

That's true, I forgot about him. I thought he was a nice addition..just didn't pan out.

Yeah, but they also tried to address the QB situation by taking Charlie Batch that year.

And in defense of that, he actually was one of the better Lions QBs of the generation, which is kind of a sad commentary in it's own right.

Speaking of the 97/98 draft classes, who else here was SUPER excited about Terry Battle, the RB we drafted in like the 7th round that year?

I was absolutely convinced he was going to save us from misery when Barry retired two years later.

Ahhh.. to be that young and stupid again.

Notes from Thursday OTA per http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2015/06/11_quick_observations_from_det.html (Bolded things that I thought were noteworthy)

-- Kellen Moore says he and Dan Orlovsky are alternating the No. 2 reps at quarterback. Yet the media has seen two OTA sessions now, and Moore has taken all the No. 2 reps during those sessions. It's too early to say he's surpassed Orlovsky or anything like that, but he's clearly being given a serious chance to do just that. Moore looked good again Thursday, including uncorking a bomb to a double-covered Lance Moore downfield. He wasn't perfect, though, including one throw behind Andrew Peacock that would have killed the receiver against a live defense.

-- Moore made the play of the day when he dove, fully-extended, to snag a pass from Matthew Stafford against good defense from Josh Wilson. Moore and Ryan Broyles have both impressed me with solid showings in OTAs.

-- Quandre Diggs, Ryan Broyles, TJ Jones and Ameer Abdullah were repping at kick returner, while Jeremy Ross was not. But I'm not sure we can read too much into this. Ross said the emphasis was on the kickoff team today, not kick return, and he is repping on the kickoff unit right now. He's playing the "L2" position, which is the second guy in on the left side. Ross said if the emphasis were on kick return, he would have been back there. Still, there's no question he has serious competition for the kick/punt return jobs, most notably from Abdullah.

-- With Joique Bell still nursing his way back from offseason surgery, Detroit has turned to Theo Riddick as its top tailback. But it's hard to say how good he looks, because everyone's in shorts and there is no hitting during OTAs. Bell was impressed, though, saying Riddick has made another leap forward this offseason and could shoulder more rushing duties. (Though it's still more likely he's used primarily as a pass-catcher.)

-- The Lions used Travis Swanson at center and Manny Ramirez at left guard on the top offensive line last week. This week was more of a mish-mash of various looks. Ramirez was at center and Laken Tomlinson was at left guard to start, but Swanson also rotated in at center. Tomlinson did a lot of work with both the first and second unit offensive lines, sometimes consecutively. That's one way to get the first-round pick a lot of early reps.

-- Larry Warford was back at right guard today, after sitting out most of team drills last week with an undisclosed issue.

-- Cornelius Lucas is still at right tackle, with LaAdrian Waddle still not back from his torn ACL.

-- A lot of players were held out of this OTA, including Calvin Johnson, Haloti Ngata and Darius Slay.

-- With Calvin Johnson skipping this OTA, the top receivers were Golden Tate, Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross. Broyles said he's looking to crack that top line, but is pleased with how he's played on the second unit.

-- The Lions used various combinations at outside cornerback with Darius Slay out, though I saw Chris Owens there the most. Rookie defensive back Quandre Diggs has been used everywhere as well, including inside/outside cornerback (as well as kick returner, as previously noted). Stafford said Diggs has looked most comfortable on the inside, and has made a few eye-catching plays there. The sixth-rounder seems to be helping himself during OTAs.

-- Eric Ebron was better today than last week, though only slightly so. After dropping at least three pass during last week's OTA that was open to the media, he dropped two more Thursday. On another play, it looked like he wasn't going full speed and the pass sailed over his head.

Jeremy Ross at receiver, lol. Wish the Lions would give this guy the boot.

This.

What's sad is because of the lack of depth we have at WR.....he's going to get another shot. I don't think he makes the final 53, though. (without injuries)
