Otl - al mvp

Trout had a great season, and he'll have a great career - greatest talent since Willy May maybe.

But the Triple Crown - that has always been special, and rare, in baseball history.

Willy Mays never won it.

If I had a vote, I'd vote for Miggy.

But if Trout wins, I really won't care.

There's a freakin' MVP every season.

AJ is nothing special in CF? Maybe because he doesnt have to make those diving catches, because his footwork and jump are so good.

His jumps and quickness is just freakin' awesome. I can handle this guy is better that guy kind of thing but to say AJ is nothing special :lmao:

People used to say the same thing about Andruw Jones back in the day. He never needed to make spectactular plays.

You might have missed it, if you don't have the opportunity to catch a wall shot how can he have more? CF is 440 and deep alleys, not too many home run robberies you get. Duh.

That's right, rationalize it away. It is what you do best. Change the world to fit your already pre decided view.

Well I don't AJ can catch a ball that's hit 20 feet over the wall, lol. Miguel had 2 PA tonight, should have had 3 hits, lol.

I'm confused. ESPN's stats page ranks Miggy #3 in fielding percentage in the AL. Trout is #5 amongst CFs. Is it because Miggy didn't have any walls to jump on or over for the highlight reels that the "superior defender" is an argument for Trout.
Miggy is older, fatter, and slower AND he played in and started 153 games (40+ more games than Trout) AND he changed positions this year.
Don't get me wrong, Trout is amazing and had a great year. If he maintains that level of production for several years, he will certainly win a MVP.

Posted by an Angels fan, I assume, on ESPN:

Miggy deserves MVP with a triple crown on a playoff team but Trout is, was, and will be the better player.

What's wrong with these people.

I've always said can't compare CF and 3B. I don't think anyone would argue Miggy is the better defensive player but lets see Trout at 3rd, it ain't easy.

Both players had amazing years. In my trying not to be Homerish opinion is that Miguel should win the MVP based on Numbers and what he means to the team. I dont get WAR which is based on a fictisous player. Look at who would have replced the 2 players in question. If Cabrera had to be replaced Kelly would have been our 3rd baseman. Trout himself was a replacement, but who would have replaced him Peter Bourjous (sp) who is purty dam good himself.

Any other year and i think Trout would have won, but Cabrera put up better numbers and was just more valuable to his team.

We had Fielder they had Pujols, though Fielder had a better year. But I bet the Angels didn't stroll out Raburn and kelly and Worth and a BB and a SS and C who struggled mightily at times. They had the much deeper team, more guys who could help Trout.

Plus it helps to be a rookie, rather than a guy that has been around for 10 yrs. How do you think guys like Boesch, Garcia, Dirks have these good years when they get called up

True that. Not as much film, not many pitchers faced him before etc.

And I bet many more teams pitched around Miguel more than Trout. Even with fielder behind him.

Wow, you mean you posted some good plays by Trout - ON THE INTERNET? Nooooo way..

I bet I could find 10 plays by AJ in 5 minutes. Plus, if the opportunity isn't there to rob HR you can't catch them. I think I heard that somewhere ;-)

And Tom said "AJ is nothing special" - lol. Anyone who thinks that is crazy.

I said he was nothing special defensively. If you combine his good defense and good offense he is a top tier CF.....I was talking about his defense at the time. He covers a lot of ground but also makes some terrible plays out there. Overall he is good defensively but not great.

He is one of the best outfielders/CF there are. You're just too *** to know any better. Trout is not better than AJ.

AJ is a very good CF....there aren't many I would take over him because of his offensive and defensive ability. That said....Trout is a lot better than AJ....Take your homer glasses off...I doubt there is a single objective Tiger fan that would say AJ is better than Trout.

Not one person will agree with you that AJ is nothing special as a CF, defense only. Its not homer glasses its knowing a thing or two about baseball.
