That's exactly the point Ink. That's why so many of us are so down on this organization.
SO many other needs that were staring them in the face. The Lions went out and took a luxury at #10. There's no other way to define it. A pass-catching TE that's basically a TE in name only. It was an arrogant, Millen pick.
Can't say I am down on the organization. I am down on the pick.
Every team makes picks that don't work out for a variety of reasons. I said it then, and I say it now... the coaching staff stated they had four "blue chip" rated prospects in the draft, and they drafted one of them.
I think their evaluation was off, but you really can't ask a staff to pass up on their ratings. When teams start ignoring their scouting reports for whatever reason, you're in serious shit.
I also said if this moves us away from Droptimus Prime, I'd be fine with it, and there's talk of Pettigrew being traded, so maybe...
But when you look at the body of the last two drafts, it's been more good than bad too. I'm still very high on Van Noy, and still think Swanson is going to be a very good center in the league. Lawson looked fantastic from what we saw of him, but there's less footage there than the Zapruder film. Webster looks like he can contribute and maybe become a starter, ala Willie Young, and Reid is developmental, but shows promise. TJ Jones has ball skills.
The only clear miss was Nate Freese, and he was a 7th round pick, they usually don't work out.
Was Ebron a reach at #10. The books so far would say yes. I feel he was a reach. But I also don't see "bust" written all over the kid, I just see someone not worth a #10, and maybe not even a first rounder. The rest of that draft was pretty good in my book.
