PFF Review Week 12

And by the way Detroit has fixed the penalties a ton this year. Unnoticed by all. They just listen to the media or announcers talk about discipline when they have no clue about the actual totals.

Penalties as a total is just one aspect, have you forgotten about Suh getting one when Levy was about to score a TD. Didn't matter if it was a bad call it was mental Levy was in the clear. Staff throws INT next play.

Or the same game, we stop them on 3rd - Delmas jaws at the WR out of bounds and gets a 15 yarder. They score on that possession. We lose because of those two penalties.

-6 turnover differential you should lose by 20 plus to any NFL team. Lions dominated other facets of the game (as they usually do), such on running the ball, moving the ball down the field consistently, run defense (3.8 YPC 7th in the league by the way now), 3rd down conversions, redzone scoring, getting pressure.

Which can be skewed by the competition. Arguably the best opponents they've faced this season are Cincy, Arizona, and GB (with a healthy Rodgers)...that's it, all losses too. I know they can only play who's on their schedule, but I can't give them all that much credit going against mediocre or bad teams, they're still an unknown at this point. Two of those losses, the numbers favored the opponent, the Cincy loss was roughly even.

Being up in the league in some of those categories is nice and all, but I'd argue holding onto the ball can be just as important, if not more. It's cost them two losses in a row, and nearly cost them the Dallas game.

GB game without Calvin and Burleson. Surely that gave the Packers a huge advantage in that game. The D did what it could be Rodgers eventually broke it open on a hobbled Houston.

Zona game no Bush hurt along with two FG problems and a Bush fumble (3 points). Detroit did enough to win that game and Zona is very tough at home. Again two non turnovers that were turnover like.

Cincy more field goal problems with a big block return and shanked punt. Two non turnovers that were really turnover like.

Detroit was dead even in all these games. Like you said good teams.

You realize we won that game by 10. Would have won by 27 if not for those.

Detroit goes 5-1 in the division, I'll be interested to see your responses. Bring on GB.

In other words, not being able to finish good drives with points has cost this team in 4 out of their 5 losses (I'd also add the Dallas game in their too, if Tyron Smith doesn't commit a holding penalty, the Lions lose that game). GB was a well-deserved(?) loss because of the injury factor.

I don't know if it's mental issues or what, but if the Lions can't execute at critical moments, then there's not much hope for this team. It's often said, and mostly true, that a handful of plays usually determines the outcome of an NFL game, and that's where the Lions have failed the last two weeks. They need to fix whatever has been going wrong the last month if they have any hope of both making the playoffs and being successful there.

It's strange that a simple stat like turnover margin can almost mirror the standings (aside from a few exceptions).

None of that is the point. But Lions make the most stupid penalties at the wrong time. Even yesterday, false start makes a 3rd and 2 into a 3rd and 7. Game on the line and we get stupid penalties.

I'm happy the number has gone down but we have too many players who don't think. That's on Shorts.

I'm still irked about the last drive.

First of all, why is Reggie Bush being run into a wall on 1st down when they're losing with about a minute to go?

Secondly, who's to blame for having to burn a timeout AFTER an incomplete pass, because they couldn't get their shit together before the playclock ran out?

Lastly, why is Durham still on this team? can't they find another scrub WR that doesn't throw the ball in bounds and doesn't commit false starts on crucial drives?

It's little things like this that contributed to them losing yesterday.

Durham is all on Mayhew. I still don't know what the hell he was trying to do when he threw it in-bounds.

The others, Linehan-Shorts? Throw in Staff on #2, as the leader and QB he needs to get them ready.

The offense did nothing in the 2nd 1/2 of the AZ game.

Drives in 2nd 1/2
1) Stafford fumble
2) 3 incomplete passes, punt
3) bell 5 yard run, Staff 1 yard run, incompletion, punt
4) Bell had 28 yards recieving and running. CJ 20 yards but FG gets blocked
5) Bell, no yards, 2 incompletions by Staff, punt
6) famous Stafford to Buerlson for 3 yards on 4th and 4....need I say more.

That second 1/2 offensive performance is just stellar!

WR. We will get another next offseason. You people didn't want another WR after the Young and Broyles picks. We got Slay. Wooooooooooo

Despite no 2nd round picks other than Delmas, this team is in first. Great job in other rounds and free agency Mayhew.

going into the season the NFC North was supposed to be one of the best divisions. I think it may be the worst right now. 2 of the 4 teams are playing back up QBs with GB using a guy off of the street because their 2nd and 3rd string guys suck. MN were so desperate that they signed Josh Freeman. All three of the other teams are in the bottom 1/3 of the league in most defensive categoires. This is the divison the Lions are barely leading!

5th quarterback for GB. I wonder what we'd look like if were using our 5th choice..

A second half without Bush. That sucked but they did enough to win it with Calvin and the pick 6 and two FG attempts. Very close game. Detroit defense did it's job until one drive.

we don't use bush anyways....hes wide open in the flat on every single play....staff throws it to the other team instead.
