PFF Review Week 3

A really good time to take a stud OL or DL would have been when they had the #10 pick but they took the "Matchup nightmare"

BTW...I really think LKP's prediction on your posts of Lions 42-10 over AZ might come up a little off!

Yep, pretty sure I picked a very good game to argue with him about. Stanton beat us last time, Carson will destroy us

Whitehead gained 10 lbs of muscle during the offseason, let's bench him

He seems to be all over the field when he plays......and he played well in long stretches last year.

I don't get it......and I haven't heard ANYTHING about Van Noy or Lawson in ages........those were two players I thought would really step up this year and have solid/good seasons.

Just something else I've been wrong about.........sigh......

Don't feel bad dude. It's the same old Lions. Nothing's changed with this organization.

based on the first 3 games...I think AZ might be the best team in the NFC...them or GB just because of Rodgers.

This is a weird week.. Part of me is glad LKP is on vacation, the other part not so much. Of course that's a very small part.

We are having real football conversation. You can tell the difference.

I'm not gonna lie......I unblocked him because I wanted to see the excuses.

Not respond to them, but just for comic relief, read how Denver "cheated" and how the refs screwed us on the Stafford fumble (they did, in all honesty). I wanted to hear him defend Stafford and Waddle, too!

The excuses are pretty funny.

I notice they seem to like using Bell on those 2 point tries..

They do seem to love to put him out there for them. However it's Stafford that checked out of the pass into the run on both occasions...I believe that is what I heard him say in some interview.

Oddly enough just like the week earlier, Matthew Stafford had checked into the play.

edit:
“It was a good play by their first defense. They were going to have a coverage that was really tough for us on the first play,’’ Stafford said. “When I checked it, they checked. I didn’t want to burn a timeout.I thought maybe we could somehow find a way to get in. It was a tough look to run the ball, guys tried to make it work and it didn’t work.’’

Can someone explain to me how these 'checks' work? My understanding is the staff will 'give' a Run play and a Pass play on most downs, and its the QB's job to pick which one to go with depending on the look the D provides. Is this correct? Or does Stafford have X amount of plays to choose from every snap and can audible to one of his choosing?

That might be the case and they picked the pass play. Then check to the run play and when the defense checked they didn't have time to check back.. That's my guess.

Ya thats what Im thinking too - which makes me question two things

1) why would the coaching staff choose the exact same running play as last weeks failed 2pt conv. attempt as the 'running play' option?

2) Knowing there was a roughly 50/50 chance Stafford would audible into the running play, why would they throw Joique Bell out on the field, given how shitty he had looked all day/he got stonewalled on the same play the week prior?

If I was Stafford, I honestly would have said 'F It' and thrown regardless of what look the D gave, knowing that Bell was the RB...if it was AA, thats a different story. With AA on the field the D would have to have accounted for two scenarios once Stafford audibles out, a run w/ AA, or a screen pass to AA. That forces the D to think twice before going 'all out blitz' mode, and likely hold one LBer back to shadow AA for even a second.

well...it sounds like the coaching staff gave Matt a pass play and Matt decided it would be better to run Bell. THAT might be the biggest problem with this team...Matt's decision making!

That alludes to the other thread, other teams know what we're running? I have no explanation.. I was just confused why the ran the exact play.. I'm starting to think the playbook is a simple one.

I don't necessarily have a problem with Stafford checking to a run play if the D is played to prevent a pass (which was the case). I have a problem with him running the exact same (failed) play as last week, with the exact same personnel.

That is why I am curious as to who's decision it was to call 'THAT' play? If Stafford has two options for plays (Run/Pass), and the second one is that Bullshit run w/ Bell, thats on the coaches. If Stafford had several different options to choose from, (ex: screen pass, bootleg, etc.) and he still chose the Bell run, then I blame him.

waddle and Stafford: Proving LKP has no fucking idea what hes saying since 2010.

3) Matt is a puss and has no idea what to do when they check a check.
