Called it weeks ago...

Sources tell Sporting News' Russ Lande that NFL teams are not nearly as high on Iowa OT Riley Reiff as the media, and that Reiff could fall "toward the bottom of the first round" or even into the second.
It would be a fall similar to Reiff's former Iowa teammate Bryan Bulaga, who was widely projected as a top-ten or even top-five pick before the Packers stole him at No. 23. (Bulaga is now one of the league's premier right tackles.) Per Lande, NFL teams question Reiff's athleticism, and it's no secret he has relatively short arms. We're still not so sure he'd get by Arizona at No. 13.

he is another Iowa RT....shouldn't even be a top 20 pick

Theres crazy people like Casserly who view him as a LT lock...then theres rational people that view him as a RT only. Those teams that view him as a RT only wont pick him in the top 15. Buffalo could jump on him cause they need help everywhere across the line. KC could as well. Then theres CIN with 2 picks or a team like chicago. Then us.

I think someone highly regarded falls to us, same as last year and we snap them up. Dre fits the bill. This year though I think it is Reilly Rieff. I think the Bills take Martin and AZ takes DeCastro.

I posted this yesterday in the other thread.

If you're referring to Bulaga...

The Packers are considering moving RT Bryan Bulaga to left tackle next season.
Bulaga was drafted as Chad Clifton's likely successor, and has the size and athleticism to make the transition. Incumbent starter Marshall Newhouse is coming off a rocky first season, and 2011 first-round pick Derek Sherrod's availability is in question after suffering a severe leg fracture in Week 15. Bulaga graded out as the NFL's second best right tackle by Pro Football Focus.

I would love to land Reiff. RT day 1, potential LT of the future...AND, and... he can run block.

If they do move him to lt it would be a mistake. That dude has t Rex arms..

I hope GB does move Bologna to LT....would love to see Rodgers leave on a stretcher...if the Lions took Rieff , I think I'll puke.

Goz 2.0

Goz had all the physical attributes (36" plus arms etc etc) but had to improve on technique. Reiff has less than perfect attributes, but is technically sound. Rieff is considered a top 20 pick and potentially the #2 lineman in the draft. Goz was a reach at 17 and to some scouts a reach in the 1st round. Not at all alike.

Millen again NEVER listened to his own scouts...he thought Goz was gonna be his future LT and when NE grabbed Mayo and Denver took Clady , Fat Matt panicked and dealt down a few picks and still went against his Scouts....Goz himself said Pre Draft he was more comfortable at RT...it was one of the stupidest picks Millen EVER made and Mayhew will discrd that trash after this year.

I'd take DeCastro and Glenn ahead of Rieff in a heartbeat and maybe even Jonathan Martin who is already NFL calibre pas protector.

Lions have a RT for 2013 on the roster his names Jeff Backus....no need for Rieff.

These are all good points. Personally I wouldn't puke if they went with Reiff. All those guys could potentially go ahead of him.

to many teams ahead of the Lions need OL anyway...someone will bite on him before 23.

What I don't get is why every time a discussion about Reiff's arm length comes up, someone compares him to Backus, who has even shorter arms.

Yet Lions fans have been saying for more than six years we want a better LT.

Don't get me wrong, I think the myth of arm length (and inch give or take) is a crock, I just don't get why we defend a guy by comparing him to someone most of us have never been happy with.

Compare the guy to Joe Thomas who has sub-33" arms or something.
