Reiff Slipping

I don't know where you were, but I remember tons of fans hating him during his rookie season. People called into talk shows hating on him, the ESPN boards were filled with hate, ect. Not saying any of it was legit, but its what happened.

I don't listen to talk shows but what I know from then, the ones that call in bitch just to bitch. I do remember when the people here were over on ESPN, we were excited.

yeah, but i also remember the intense excitement for staff turning into countless "Matt Glassford" filled hate comments on the espn boards after the Bears game (though they were difficult to spot to some extent behind all of the CJ (non-)TD and hatred for the refs).

not sure why giving fox 1 more legit shot is an issue. at this point if he fails, not unexpected and so be it...if he succeeds then that's a huge bonus, so they really don't stand to lose much. plus they picked up at least 1 OT in the Undrafted ranks. i think most of us prefer that they focused on the DBs and LBs in the draft at this point as they have some depth at OT even if that depth is considered only marginally better than the depth at DB and LB.

+1. Its his last year, but he at least deserves a chance.

It's Fox vs Hilliard for that 4th spot. Last chance for Fox. Hilliard has health and the experience(including some starts at RT and playoff snaps at LT) but Fox is more talented and technically is just a restricted free agent compared to unrestricted for Hilliard making Fox easier to bring back.

That's a different question. We all saw his talent, of course we were bummed he got hurt. But talent wise, we all got wood :hitter: Come on, admit it.

Stafford? Hell yeah. I was on board since before they drafted him lol. I was all over him in fantasy drafts last year in the 5th/6th round. Drafted him the year before as well. I've loved the guy for over 3 years now.

Just saying, there were PLENTY of people down on him.

Don't forget about Culbreath. He'll get a look too. IIRC he had the physical talent, just needed some coaching.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see Goz shown the door if Fox and Culbreath both impress. Both cheaper and younger, Reiff can slide in at RT.

How often do the OL get changed out? I mean how often do backups play? Seems different than the DL, where they get rotated out, I never see Backus out or Sims or Crapola etc. This is of course once the season starts so I wonder how much of a look some of these other guys can get?

TC, Practice, Preseason, Blowouts

There wasn't much change out. I think Peterman,Raiola and Sims played every snap. Backus missed like 4 snaps(Dallas game, Ware got a hit right away against Hilliard) in the regular season and 9 snaps in playoff game after he tore bicep(Hilliard did well). Hilliard played the entire KC game at RT(after Gosders stupid late penatly against Bucs) over Gosder and half of the Viking game(after Gosder let Robison destroy Stafford).

Gos actually played well down the stretch and in the playoff game at least in pass protection. He's too inconsistent though and not a good run blocker(which he was supposed to be). I fully expect Reiff to start over him. Gosder is a FA next year. Interesting decision there with Backus age(although he has 2 year deal) and Hilliard/Fox what they do with Gosder. My guess is let him walk because the Lions have a ton of other of their own free agents to sign next year.

I think the staff is "hoping" Fox can be the future RT, Reiff LT, and Culbreath a swing tackle.

I'd like to think a player drafted at 23 should have no problem being the starter. I'm not sure he's great at run or pass blocking but he's suppose to be good at both.
