Report: Lions and Suh NOT close to a deal

Let's be real guys.. if Suh didn't want to be drafted by the Lions, or more appropriately was against being drafted by the Lions, he wouldn't be here.

Under the old system, a rookie really could dictate their own path if they wanted to. All he had to do was tell the Lions, ala Eli Manning, that he wouldn't sign here and they would have passed on him.

He didn't give a rats ass where he went, so long as it was #1 or #2 overall money he was getting.

And he doesn't want out of Detroit now. He wants the big payday. It's a business.

He's not going to sign now for a cheap deal when he knows he can get more if the cap expands after this season. He isn't going to sign a friendly deal when he knows the Lions have a cap problem, have declined the option on Fairley, and are in bad shape fi they let him walk.

He's got them over a barrel and he's going to get everything he can get.

And he should too... because if he blows out his knee this season, or any season, he'll be cut with a quickness as soon as possible. Teams are not loyal to the players, so players should squeeze the team for all they can.

Until all money in the NFL is guaranteed, then it's in the players best interest to negotiate for every penny.

First, even if he did want to be drafted by the Lions, what does that have to do with him wanting to resign here now? Do you think he enjoyed having a losing record 3 out of 4 years? Do you think his opinion might've changed now?

Second, if he wants the big payday, there's a good chance that he goes to another team in free agency who is willing to give him the big payday.

I don't think he's a bad guy for wanting to go to free agency. It's ridiculous when you read people commenting about how it's his obligation to stay in Detroit. Ultimately, I don't know if he likes Detroit that much, and I don't blame him. We haven't won.

I was with you there. There were some saying that the Lions could get an early first and then some for Suh. I would have been happy with a top 15 pick for him. Donald and Denard would have been a nice pair for the defense.

And there was also talk of nobody wanting the baggage either. The Lions may have explored options, maybe they didn't. Won't know for a bit now.

Personally, I'm glad it's put to rest for now. Smartest thing the organization has done this year. Make him EARN his money now. He's getting paid regardless, but at least they're not chasing him around like some skirt giving out rounds in the fn alley. No way he's getting franchised at 27MIL next year and if he doesn't re-sign, they have a boatload to work with next year and they can sign at least 2-3 very good players.

People on this board are going to bitch and moan no matter what happens. Don't re-sign him because he wants 15MIL per, you can't franchise him, you can't lose him next year for nothing. How many players pull an Eli Manning. I don't think it signifies he wanted to play here.

The rest I agree with though honestly I hope he goes elsewhere..regardless how good he or others are just too much for a DT.

Tony, I'm pretty sure they were chasing him around like some skirt in an alley all year. That's what Mayhew basically said. He thought they were going to have a deal done like 4 or 5 times over. They weren't offering him some ridiculous offer, but I would bet it was a pretty good one. Suh just doesn't want to play here. Don't have to read between the lines to figure that out.

They would be at 125 in committed cap plus get 1.9 carryover. The cap should be well above the current 133. So we could get a bunch of players.

But Suh needs to be re-signed after they know what the cap jump will be to ensure a fair deal and after a playoff season in 2014. Winning will bring him back.

I'm sure Mayhew has offered a "fair deal". You think he low balled him? He's gone, he wants the biggest he can get, that's obvious. The only way I see him back is if the Browns are the only team offering him money.

Good players like him don't check out free agency and then sign back with a former team, especially if it's Detroit.

Maybe those guys didn't want a 14 plus million per year deal on contract 2. Not many of them played DT I'm sure either. Each is it's own situation.

Suh is being ridiculous. Not many players start out on a 12 million per year deal. The guy has plenty of money. Is 14 million or more per really necessary?

Or maybe the Lions just lowballed him. We'll find out eventually.
