Yeah, and the 70s and most of the 80s the Big Ten was like the MAC minus 2 teams with double the scholarship players as the other teams. Look throughout the history of the conference, there's been a couple years total where ore than a team or 2 was having a great season.
That was the tenor of the entire landscape of college football back then, though, in the Big Ten, I'd contend that things evened out somewhat in the 80s with the presense of Iowa, MSU and Illinois making Rose Bowl appearances.
