Ryan Broyles unhappy with role, vents on Twitter.
MINNEAPOLIS ? Ryan Broyles spent most of today's 17-3 win over the Minnesota Vikings standing on the sideline with a helmet on his head waiting for a call to go in the game that rarely came.
Afterwards, the little-used Lions receiver took to Twitter to voice what appeared to be frustration about his lack of playing time.
"It's tough to keep a smile on your face when you feel like u are being held back but remember you are where u are for a reason!" Broyles tweeted.
And, "Your plan may not be his plan! The light will shine sooner than later on you! Keep pushing someone sees ur worth!"
A second-round pick in 2012 who suffered season-ending leg injuries each of the last two years, Broyles has been a bit player in the Lions' struggling offense this year.
He was inactive for the season's first three games, had one catch for 21 yards against the New York Jets and hasn't had a reception in the two games since.
Return man Jeremy Ross has surpassed Broyles on the depth chart at the slot receiver position, and Corey Fuller plays in some three-receiver packages as an outside threat to complement Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.
Johnson did not play because of a high ankle sprain and has been limited by the injury the last two weeks, but Broyles has seen only a modest uptick in his play.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell said this week Broyles remains in the team's plans at receiver.
After his tweets went viral, Broyles re-tweeted a fan who called him a motivation and sent another message out on the social media site.
"I'm glad my tweets motivate some while rubbing some the wrong way," he wrote. "We are all different for a reason and that's why I love people!"
