Sabathia

Don't see it.

Wouldn't want to give him a long term deal either.

Besides, the Yankees can't afford to lose CC, they'll resign him.

I say NO to Tubbathia, that is, UNLESS he really wants out of NY and is willing to work out a contract with the Tigers that is chock-full of incentives, especially with his weight, age, and health.

Mitch[/color]]I'll take a 2B or 3B over a SP.
Who do you want? The FA market for 2B and 3B blow, IMHO...

Second basemen
Clint Barmes (33)
Willie Bloomquist (34) - $1.1MM mutual option with a $150K buyout
Orlando Cabrera (37)
Robinson Cano (29) - $14MM club option with a $2MM buyout
Jamey Carroll (37)
Alex Cora (36)
Craig Counsell (41)
Mark Ellis (35)
Jerry Hairston Jr. (36)
Bill Hall (32) - $4MM mutual option with a $250K buyout
Aaron Hill (30) - $8MM club option for 2012 and $8MM club option for '13
Kelly Johnson (30)
Adam Kennedy (36)
Felipe Lopez (32)
Jose Lopez (28)
Aaron Miles (35)
Brandon Phillips (31) - $12MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Drew Sutton (29)

Third basemen
Wilson Betemit (30)
Casey Blake (38)
Jorge Cantu (30)
Eric Chavez (34)
Craig Counsell (41)
Mark DeRosa (37)
Greg Dobbs (33)
Edwin Encarnacion (29) - $3.5MM club option with a $500K buyout
Jerry Hairston Jr. (36)
Kevin Kouzmanoff (30)
Andy LaRoche (28)
Felipe Lopez (32)
Jose Lopez (28)
Nick Punto (34)
Aramis Ramirez (34) - $16MM club option with a $2MM buyout; Ramirez can void
Omar Vizquel (45)

Make a trade. Or just maybe go high like ARam. They have some money they want to spend. But if we have Inge/Betemit at 3rd and Raburn/Santiago/Worth at 2nd I'm going to get sick.

Even via a trade, who is realistically out there? I agree with what you are saying in theory, but I don't think there is much to be had via FA or trade that's gonna help us at either position.

Casey Blake to a one year contract w/ Kringe coming in late for defense maybe? Looks like he is all done @ 38 though, didn't play a lot, and his hitting is now mediocre at best.

Aaron Myles for one season, he is pretty versatile SH, can play 2B SS and 3B, had a decent BA for most of his career, dunno about his fielding and he has no power or speed.

You seriously want either of those guys? C'mon... we're better than that.

How?

Who are we gonna offer in trade? Inge has a year remaining on his contract. The Tigers may need to obtain a much better 3B and/or 2B, but only in a trade, otherwise it will be yet another stopgap one-year contract season, but at 2B/3B.

That has to be one of the most mediocre to poor to washed-up list of FAs at those two positions, not counting those with club options which are likely to be exercised, unless one or more of 'em has a phenom in the minors that is going to be ML-ready next season.

You can just go ahead and take Robinson Cano off that list. He's not going anywhere.

Agreed. The Yanks are gonna try to lock him up long term and will definitely pick up his option. I just copied the full lists from MLBTR.

Who knows what they want to spend. It's pure speculation on the part of then fans to say we'll spend more or less. Sure Iltch and DD have given us some hints, but we don't know the internals of their budget, period.

For all we know they want to add another $50 Million to their payroll and will offer Cano and CC ridiculous contracts.

Reyes would solve some problems but I don't think he is worth the contract teams will be willing to pay him. Ramirez would be interesting because he is a good 3rd baseman and would bring another big bat to the lineup. He is 33 though and probably wants more years than would be prudent. Tigers will have some money to spend but I am not sure that there are a lot of obvious answers. I do think we will make a splash in the offseason though.

I think in the short term a guy like C.C or Reyes(if healthy) would be tremendous.. BUt beyond 2 years it could be a disaster.. C.C could certainly blow up playing for the Tigers as well, he was awful in his last season with Cleveland before being traded to Mil.. Actually Reyes is still young and would be great for several years, but given his durability, I'm not sure he's worth 20 million a year..

From MLBTR...

C.C. Sabathia told Mark Hale of the New York Post that baseball is a business, while acknowledging that it would be difficult to leave New York. The left-hander will likely opt out of the four years and $92MM remaining on his seven-year, $161MM deal. Cashman says the Yankees haven't started talking extension with Sabathia.

I don't think CC would get a better deal than 4/92. If he opts out, he could lose money.

The Tigers or Angels off the top of my head. I could also see the Cubs as a dark horse. I think Boston could be imploding right now, but never count them out for throwing around big money when it doesn't make sense.

I could easily see him getting something like 5yrs @ $110mil, which beats 4yrs @ $92mil.

Come on King that would be the dumbest thing Detroit could do with $110M, we have Turner who should be ready and very able to contribute by 2013 at the least, we just need a one year SP, we have Verlander, Fister, Scherzer and Porcello all tied up for a few more years.
