Come on King that would be the dumbest thing Detroit could do with $110M, we have Turner who should be ready and very able to contribute by 2013 at the least, we just need a one year SP, we have Verlander, Fister, Scherzer and Porcello all tied up for a few more years.
Yeah, how stupid of me to suggest we go after a lefty ace. What am I thinking? Worst plan ever making a strength even stronger and wanting a guy who is as reliable as it gets.

Look at the FA crop and tell me who you want. It's a strong year for 1B/DH, but we've got Cabrera and Vmart there already. We're set in the corner OF with DY and Boesch. We're set at catcher. Our pen is shaping up nicely. Peralta has been solid at SS, and the 2B and 3B crop blows. Unless you are signing Reyes to the same or bigger deal and moving Peralta, who you getting to solve anything?

Not that either is worth it but if you're spending the money I'd go Reyes, an IF, over CC the SP. Nice lefty would be nice, let Turner sit for another year but we need an infielder. But I wouldn't be complaining, JV CC and Fister with Scherzer and Porcello. That'd be pretty damn good.

I hope signing DY to a long term deal is not a foregone conclusion. If a good playoff round is enough to win the job, I guess Don Kelly is in the running, too.

CC will definitely draw plenty of interest, similar to Cliff Lee, I think. Lee got 5 years at 107, which is pretty much the same as 4 years at 92.... at least in the same ball park. CC would essentially be gambling on getting one more year at 20-23 million out of his last big contract. Based on his playoff record and his weight, teams may be worried about giving him 5 years. I know I would be. He will probably get it from someone, but I don't think it's a certainty.

I'd be thrilled with either of them. I understand the injury issues with Reyes, but could you imagine his speed in the top of our lineup? I'd bet Miggy would have another 20RBIs a year, easy. CC is fat and wants big cash, and we've already got a #1 in JV, but there's no such thing as too much pitching in baseball. How'd you like to face JV, CC and Fister in a series? Especially with guys like Cabrera and VMart in your lineup.

I would offer Robinson Cano all the money we have left and the keys to the playboy mansion if possible.

Yankees would have to decline his $14mil (I think) option. That ain't happening. I agree 100% though.

Yeah I was only kidding..no way you let the best 2b by a land slide go. Power and average from that spot is priceless.

That's why I wouldn't mind seeing Peralta there next year if we could land Reyes.

Yeah, Jhonny could last longer @ 2B than SS, by maybe a year or two, depending on how long he can play the IF, rather than @ 3B, since both Inge and Peralta have a year left on their contracts, and I hope/expect that Betemit's poor O & D in this postseason has killed any chance of his being signed for next season by the Tigers. So I wonder who, if anyone else will be traded for or signed, by the Tigers, who might platoon with him next season @ 3B?

Q . Your payroll is in better shape with some big contracts going away. You feel good about the direction of the Tigers?

A . Yeah, but I'm challenged to keep it there like the Yankees and the Red Sox. I haven't totally zeroed in on our payroll yet. What I'm still trying to figure out is what we need for next year. I want to be in a position to make one or two additions, and generally, they're pretty big additions.

Q . So you could add a couple of big-time players?

A . Yes. I'm already thinking about that. Can you imagine another big bat in our lineup?

Now with that said you have to understand the holes currently on the team. As of now we have holes at OF, 2B and 3B. The talk about CC when you have to remember his current deal remaining is 4 years 92 million (23 average) is what he is opting OUT of and the only reason you opt out of that deal is if you want MORE money or just out of New York for whatever reason and he has not shown that to be the cause at all.

So lets look at the holes now in our lineup for the upcoming season. Ramon is a FA so unless Raburn or Worth is our starting 2B which clearly did not work this year then we have to resign him or someone else. Inge has shown his best days are clearly behind him and Betemit I have no idea what has happened to him this postseason but clearly we need an upgrade at 3rd. The OF situation is unclear as to whether or not we offer Young (and he accepts) arbitration after the season. From the looks of it unless there is a trade it looks as if Austin Jackson and Brennan Boesch will occupy CF and LF or RF depending so.

Mr Ilitch would really like to add an impact bat to the lineup so lets look over the options that are out there for that impact bat at least the ones in Free Agency.

Jose Reyes (SS)
Jimmy Rollins (SS)
Aramis Ramirez (3B)
Josh Willingham (LF/RF)
Carlos Beltran (OF)

Reyes - Is more then likely going to cost 6-120+ especially IF the Brewers lose Prince after this season which most expect to happen. I really believe that puts us out of the play on him which is probably a good thing.

Rollins - The Phillies have several Free Agents this off season and quite honestly are not sure they can afford to bring back Rollins. Could be an interesting signing but it would mean moving Peralta to 3B and honestly he has expressed his displeasure in playing 3rd in Cleveland so not sure it would be a good move chemistry wise and would probably have to be followed with additional moves unless Peralta accepted the move without an issue IDK. Would improve our Defense at SS as well as install a clear cut leadoff hitter to our lineup that we sorely need.

Aramis Ramirez - Unless Florida offers some unrealistic contract (which some believe they will) I believe this might be the biggest bat that we go after this offseason. Would fill the hole at 3B as well as give us someone we could slide right into either the 3 hole or cleanup in the lineup.

Josh Willingham - Delmon Young version II IMO at the plate. Has more power but also strikes out more.

Carlos Beltran - Horrible option IMO. Cannot stay healthy except in contract year. Might turn into Guillen type deal where he is setting more then playing.
I agree that Rollins makes a lot of sense, but he scares me. I'm not sure he'd transition to AL baseball that well and I think he'd cost too much because of his name.

I could really see DD going back to the well and trading for Hanley Ramirez to play SS/3B. He had a bad year, but he's still young, he's a career .306 hitter, he can steal bases, and he's has issues that could drive the cost lower. Maybe we trade some young pitching (some combo of Porcello/Perry/Schlereth/AlAl/Scherzer/Turner) for HanRam, then go after a lefty starter in FA.

I don't see no way that the Marlins trade Hanley this off-season especially considering they are opening their new ballpark next year and are expected to increase payroll considerably this off-season.

He was a huge disruption this season and rubbed teammates and manager the wrong way. Word is that they see him as too big for SS going forward too, so that's another knock against his value. I could see them being willing to part with him.

Saw that. He'd make a fine replacement for Wilson. I wonder how he'd fare pitching in that heat though.

Maybe would help him drop some of that weight lol.

Hasn't worked for the rest of TexAss. Of course they find a way to deep fry everything there, so maybe C-Cups will take less to go play there.
