***shaking head in total confusion***

I don't like the signing either, but he's a backup and cheap as fuck. Look at this way...name me one backup in the entire NFL you would trust leading our Lions. Backups are what they are...BACKUPS. Your QB goes down, you're fucked anyways.

Backups have led their team to Super Bowl victories in the past include Hostettler, Warner, and Brady, and I'm sure I'm missing a few. So, in approximately 5% of Super Bowls, a backup has led their team to the Super Bowl.

Give me a rookie who gives me that 5% chance over a guy who gives me 0% chance anyday. And don't say "yeah, but the 3 you listed were studs" or something similar when all 3 at the time were considered so unlikely that they were drafted late or never drafted and came to NFL from other leagues first. That is the definition of an Unknown, whereas danno is a Known. Give me the Unknown / yet proven over the Known / proven incapable every time.

Hughes talks about all of our holes and how we need to fill them yet wants to add another 10+ mil a year guy to the D-line and another under preforming overpaid veteran corner back which we already have one in Houston. Had we signed Peppers, dude would have been going crazy for us blowing our load on one player.... No win with guys like that.

yup, instead we blew our load on a personal best 800 yard WR and Pettigrew.....nice job mayhew!

peppers is on a deal that only has 7.5 mil in guarantees and a 3.5 mil cap number in year 1.

No win with guys that just make up shit all the time like kmd.

Ps.....A lot of smart people realize we have major holes on our defense.....Our 2 major signings were on offense cause mayhews a special needs patient. Its true I talk about our holes all the time.....Peppers would have covered a major one.

Anyone that would rather have golden fucking tate on our offense instead of peppers on our defense is fucking retarded lmao....

I don't make up shit like you do buddy.... Sue me i thought his cap hit was 8.5mil I was wrong.... But like other people have said who the hell said he would have wanted to come here? We were going to sign a WR either way and you dog the guy for having 800 yards in the number 1 rushing offense in the league... We went out and got one of the best FA WR, a pretty big need that we had. Peppers is 34 years old and the Bears and other teams, by the lack of them finding a trade partner, aren't really sold on him having much left.... You don't release a guy if you think he is a 10+ sack player no matte what his cap hit is. Probably why he got a 1 year show me contract. I can see why you are attracted to all the big name vets like Peppers but maybe the front office wants to get younger on defense not older. Now i do agree we should have at least looked at him and gave his agent a call if we didn't, but we shall see how it works out for Peppers and the pack this year with him playing a new position...

Tate 5 years, Peppers 1 year. Big difference. Give me Tate everytime.

Peppers is a great linemen but at 34 its hard for me to see his upside as really huge.. Now we did need a WR.. Not saying Tate is the right choice but he does seems to catch balls that are near him.. We needed that really bad.. We did lose some D-Line so its time for Fairly to prove his worth..

We have three first round D lineman. Two are top 5 picks. We need some line help but our biggest need was wr. We got one of the top two FA at the position with the best hands in the NFL. I feel pretty confident we can replace Young in the draft.

I've heard different reports, even though Austin will run a 4-3 here, that they could be looking for a LB who can go after the QB. I'd like that..

It would be nice to have that changeup like Barr. Teams would have to change their game plan a little against us if we could blitz well instead of just relying on the front 4 to outmuscle and outrun the opposing Olines quicker due to teams gameplanning to quick release against us.

so you think were in the position to win this year? because peppers cap goes up to $12 mil next yr

I told him that. He wants Peppers for 1 year instead of Tate for at least 3, maybe more. 5 million in dead in year 2 for Peppers. And that's if, Lions match the Packers offer and Peppers chooses the Lions over Green Bay.

Ive never seen tate do anything worthewhile in this league. We just bought a rd 2 mediocre WR and paid him like one of the top WRs in FA in a weak FA class. Yes, I would have rather had peppers on a prove it deal with 7.5 mil in guarantees and a 3.5 mil cap number. Next years numbers mean nothing cause if he performs like youd expect a top tier DE to perform next to fairley and Suh then you extend him with a new cap number next year anyways.

nope...were no where close to in a position to win this year. We need to hit it big in the draft with guys that can contribute right away....Again. Then we have to hope the injury bug doesn't hit cause mayhew built this team paper thin.

i guess if we were looking for a vet DE Allen would be my choice, but i like the two DE we drafted last year

Hostetler was a joke...lol. In general, your backup isn't even going to win you games and you're talking SB?? Cmon, man, when your backup QB goes in the game, something terrible just happened. Be realistic.

Why go after Peppers when we have young guys like Jones and Taylor? Peppers is 34!!! Upside?? Not a chance......

Best hands in the league the last 3 years, top YAC in the league and 900 yards in a run first offense in 2013. Yeah he's done nothing. I did not think your assessments could be that bad, but you surprise me hughes with your blind hate.

And extending him just adds more guaranteed money and hurts the future cap. He is 34 years old already and he got a 3 year deal (so 37). A restructure would definitely hurt 2016. Not even sure if you can do deals like that in back to back years (extension, can restructure). I'll look into the CBA for that one. And again talking 5 years for Tate and 2 years for Peppers. Give me Tate every time.

Peppers is 34, banged up and his production has slipped. Tate is like 25, healthy and has great ballskills. WR was a bigger need than DE with younger guys waiting to start or at least contribute. Are you fn retarded??

You never seen Tate do anything worthwhile in this league??? LMFAO!! then this conversation is over, buddy!! Either you're too fn stupid or you just choose to be a jackass. Which is it, bro?? Holy fuck.
