as expected by most.....heartbreaking for the Stanton slappies :'(

Shaun Hill - QB - Lions

The Lions have informed free agent Shaun Hill that they want to re-sign him for 2012, and the feeling is mutual.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Hill "might even take a slight discount" because he wants to stay with the organization. Hill does not appear to be interested in pursuing starting opportunities on the open market. The 32-year-old started ten games for Detroit in 2010, posting a 16:12 TD-to-INT ratio.

Any Stanton slappies left after Stafford shattered their hopes and dreams this past season?

some dude suggested he back up Stafford this upcoming year as a "cheaper" option.

that dude would be me. I was just saying it would save us ~3 mill to promote Stanton and draft a rookie to groom, not sure how that makes me a Stanton slappy though? I've never rooted for MSU in anything other than the 2000 NCAA Bball tourney and that was simply because a high school friend was on the squad.

glad hes back to be honest. was really just throwing out ideas to save some cap space, nothing more.

you don't scrimp on a QB2 when your horse has only played 1 full season outta 3

Ah, I still remember the arguments....

Stanton should start over Stafford because he's a "winner" and then they'd throw that win by the defense against GB like it meant something.

But those were the extreme slappies.

I'm sure somewhere kgbmsu is crying into his MSU Stanton jersey.

Stanton is not a number 2. Even if he was free. Best thing this season was Stanton didn't dress all year :)

not coming back on the cheap.....

Shaun Hill - QB - Lions

The Lions have reportedly made re-signing free agent QB Shaun Hill a priority.
The Lions realize Hill will draw interest from "at least" three teams, including one that would perhaps offer a chance to compete for a starting job, according to the National Football Post. While Hill's preference is to stay in Detroit, the Lions are going to have to offer him a significant raise in the neighborhood of $3+ million per year.

see Chicago Bears...besides #2 QB's get #2 QB money

3 mil is fairly cheap for a back up.....our cap situation is in the shitter when were worried about paying 3 mil to a good back up qb lol.

lets just hope that article LP posted is correct and the cap will get some type of bump I guess!?!

Who the hell is gonna let him compete for a starting job? And there are so many FA QBs out there who have a better resume. Seems like pure speculation.

I don't think they're talking g starting job. Hill knows he's a backup and 3m is fair backup money.

I totally understand the argument about wanting to see your team compete if your starter goes down and all that but for me personally, if Staff goes down for any real length of time and wouldn't be able to make it back for the playoffs, I would rather just have "Joe Anybody" fill in and use the extra money to address other team needs rather than worry about getting to see a 17th game and get bounced in the first round.

Lets be real here, we're trying to build a legit Superbowl contender and Shaun Hill isn't winning us any Superbowls. Is it nice to have him to fill in for a game or two if necessary and keep us in playoff contention? Absolutely, but at the right price. Is it worth the difference between upgrading Eric Wright or possibly getting Tulloch resigned? IMO not even close!

He's better than any other possible possibilities. Are there better 2's, sure. But do we have a chance to get a better two for cheap, no. That's like saying no need to get a BU DT because if Sun's out we're fk'd. Makes no sense.

Absolutely makes sense. You never just roll with 2 DT's, its always a rotation of guys getting snaps. You ALWAYS hope to just roll with your #1 QB.

Look at the article slick posted. look at the teams in the bottom who roll with rookie or vet minimum guys as their backups.

Saints = Superbowl
New England = Superbowl
New York = Superbowl
Indy = Superbowl
Green Bay = Superbowl

All those teams know if their #1 goes down the season is pretty much a rap. Why spend good money on a guy who doesn't accomplish what your ultimate end goal is. I mean if your happy to just make the playoffs then fine, spend on a #2. If your trying to win ships, spend as little on a #2 as possible and put the money to use elsewhere imo.
