Spartans Mt. Rushmore

quite impressive for someone who pays no attention to the spartans, knows nothing about the roster or who we play.

Did you notice that I named no one from any present or even recent team? Because I can recall Butch Cavendar, Terry McCloury, Terry Furlow, Mike Robinson, Scott Skiles, Billie Joe Dupree, Steve Juday, Steve Garvey, Ed Smith, Steve Smith, Mark Brammer and others from memory does not make me a closet Spartan fan.

Agreed. It's your denial of the fact that you're a Spartan fan that makes you a closet Spartan fan.

Wait ... Wood played for USC now that you mentioned Holman. Apologies. Let's go with Eric "The Flea" Allen as the fourth. Actually, no ... he was very good ... *thinking on feet* ... how about Bryan Clark?

And Wood played for USC way before I mentioned Holman...

So you don't deny it. Good, then it's settled - you're a Spartan fan.

Chuck wasn't there long enough to be considered for our Mr Rushmore but while he was there, he was amazing.

Which is also why Earvin should not be chiseled in stone.

There are exceptions to every rule. Perhaps Chuck would get a pass too if he led the team to a national title and did half for the school/program as Earvin has since he left.

Well if that's the criteria then Justin Abdelkader should be on the rock.

What has Justin Abdelkader done for the school/program? He's not done any disservice to the school but to my knowledge he hasn't done anything on the scale of what Earvin has done. And Tim Kennedy was the hero of the National Championship - he had the unassisted equalizer and his amazing assist on Abdelkader's game winner was bigger than the goal itself. I'd even put Jeff Lerg higher up the list than Justin.

And that's a pretty obscure reference, even for a Wings fan, for a guy who denies being a Spartan fan (or denies denying he's a Spartan fan).

I'm a hockey fan at all levels: NHL, College, Major Junior, Junior and High School (MI). Abdelkader went to Muskegon Mona Shores HS. Joined a Junior team (Cedar Rapids) before he graduated H.S. ... That he was a Spartan too is a coincidence.

Magic is one of the 5 greatest basketball players of all time and is the reason college basketball became so big and the reason basketball as a whole became globalized. Abdelkader isn't even a top 5 player on the Wings roster. It would be a joke to build a statue of Abdelkader.

Someone who follows hockey that closely should know better than to suggest putting Abdelkader on the MSU Mt Rushmore, whatever the criteria.

And you had to have known that he won a National Championship at State and based on the suggestion, odds are you knew he had the game winner too. Seems a bit more than a coincidence. I bet you wear an MSU Rose Bowl t-shirt to bed at night.

I think that Munn Arena should be named Abdelkader Arena and that Grand River Ave should be renamed Abdelkader Way.

Correction - it's more likely an Abdelkader Spartan hockey jersey you wear to bed.

Interesting idea though. A bit messy and there are probably more deserving Spartans to consider but it's easier to spell than Brind'Amour Boulevard
