SO YOU WANT TO BE THE GM?
Totally Tigers

So you feel about taking over Al?s GM chair. But be honest, this is what you wanted.
So You Want to Be the General Manager? offers you the opportunity.

The revised segment for the off-season puts our readers to the test in determining how they would handle decisions as the GM. The Tigers have another all-important off-season to deal with, so here is your chance to show them how you would handle things behind the desk of the General Manager. Here is your first assignment.
(Comments may be extended for this segment, but please do not exceed 8 sentences in your response).

Miguel Cabrera has made a plea with the Tigers to play more first base next year. He stayed reasonably healthy throughout the course of the 2020 58-game season and really came on at the plate in the last 2-3 weeks.
But he wants to play more first base in 2021. How do you react to this as the GM? With C.J. Cron now a free agent, the Tigers have a decision to make at first base, a position that was handled pretty seamlessly by Jeimer Candelario. What will you do?

Please participate in the survey in order to state your case. Don?t forget to come back and check the results and include your comments that support your choice.

1. Taking Miggy's plea into consideration for next year, what will be your plan for the first base position?

2. Sign or deal for a part time first baseman to platoon with Cabrera.

3. Fill the part time need internally for a platoon with Cabrera.

4. Resign CJ Cron or someone else to play full time at first base. Miggy stays at DH full time.

5. Make no new moves in association with Miggy's desire to play 1B.

6. Move Miggy back to his full time 1B position, no new acquisition for 1B.

7. Not sure.

8. Other.

With the end of the season, it?s time to sum up our observations of the season. Such as it was.
What did our 2 bloggers take away from these 8 weeks? What did they like ? and didn?t? They?ve only got 3 sentences each in order to state their cases.
As always, Holly and Kurt don?t share their opinions in advance of publishing. So let?s see if they are on the same page.

1. Overall, in this very short season, is this team better? If so, how much?

2. Where did you see improvements?

3. What is the weakest part of this team?

4. The team says they are ?ready to start winning games.? Are they?

5. Did the Tigers surprise you at all this year?

THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers readers the opportunity to weigh in on a relevant topic. So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our baseball-lovin? peeps.
Today, we center the discussion on how you interpret the results of the Tigers? 58-game season.
As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons (4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

The 2020 baseball year saw a 60-game season with the Tigers actually playing only 58 of those games. They ended the year with a 23-35 record, earning them last place in the AL Central and 12 games out of first place. In a full season, this would be the equivalent of a 64-98 season.

However, this projected record doesn?t necessarily take into account the numerous injuries that happened to their top offensive players in August.
They were hurt in what was essentially the second month of a regular 6-month season. How would the rest of the year have played out performance-wise given this?

On the other hand, several players had what appears to be break-out years. Another one has inserted himself into the Rookie of the Year chatter. And there are now several positions that appear to be filled moving forward ? unlike last year. And the Tigers have promoted a number of prospects to Detroit.

So how did you see this season? Was it a better year for Detroit? Is the team stuck? Have they regressed? Or is 58 games simply too small of a sample size?
You tell us!

Compared to the 2019 season, in 2020, the Detroit Tigers are?.
1. Visibly improved.

2. Looking promising.

3. Looking the same.

4. Worse.

5. Season too short to tell.

6. Not sure.

20 SEPTEMBER THOUGHTS.
Totally Tigers

What did we find out about 60-game baseball seasons? They go by really fast. Like lightning. And before you know it, you are forced to gather your thoughts and put a bow on an entire season.

But before we do that, we have to wrap up the final month of the season for the Tigers. It?s time to finalize September.

So let?s not waste any time and get to it. Just like normal, topics will be random and all over the map, the way we like them.

Holdovers remain important for thoughts that need more time to simmer.

So, let?s get rolling! Please enjoy another monthly compilation of 20 Thoughts ? September style!

With the end of the season, it?s time to give out final grades for the year. Such as it was.
We realize that the Tigers played only 2 months, but what were the bright spots? What were the ugly little bits? And how would a full 6-month season have played out?
Our 2 bloggers will take all of that into consideration as they grade 10 categories ? with only 1 sentence each allowed to explain their grade.
As always, Kurt and Holly don?t share their opinions in advance of publishing. So let?s see if they are on the same page.
