Spring Training

Ausmus doesn't think Sanchez issue is concerning. "But I guess you're always cringing when it involves one of your starting pitchers. Source: Chris Iott.

Seems to me he said the same thing last Spring Training concerning Verlander.

Who among us is surprised that Sanchez is injured?

We have 9 players (3 starting pitchers) from the projected 25-man roster that will be 32 or older when the season begins. I wouldn't be surprised if two out of those 9 were injured coming out of Spring Training. It could be even more.

The question is how ready is Fulmer, Boyd, and Norris?

I feel like we just had this conversation about 2 weeks ago and how likely many of us thought it was. Funny stuff.

Hope it's nothing, be prepared for the worst.

I come home too, "Anibal Sanchez sidelined with triceps inflammation". And no I'm not surprised.

I don't care if it is Bryan Holaday or Miguel Cabrera, Spring Training results, good or bad, should not be the determining factor whether a player makes or doesn't make the team. Such a small, small sample rate and we don't know if the pitcher was working on things rather than trying to get him out.

Yes, in a battle between two players, the ST results might be the scales tipper. Yet, does anyone honestly believe that Holaday would be chosen over McCann or Salty, even if he hit 8 HRs in ST?

Spring Training HR Leaders last 10 years

2012 B. Boesch 6
2012 Del. Young 6
2012 R. Raburn 6
2008 I. Rodriguez 6
2006 C. Granderson 6
2015 Y. Cespedes 5
2015 J.D. Martinez 5
2009 B. Inge 5
2008 C. Guillen 5
2006 V. Wilson 5
2006 C. Shelton 5

We're just two posters laughing about Holaday's early homers. We don't need "the talk".

He is making it difficult so far, at this early point in ST to clear waivers without being picked up by another team.
Best case would be he clears and goes to Toledo, anything can happen with either McCann or saltalamamaacchhishaiccahia.

Jim and Dan were saying the other day during the broadcast that they believe there is zero chance he clears waivers.

I agree. Maybe package him with other players to get another starting pitcher.
I'm not confident that Sanchez will be healthy despite what they are saying today.

I'll be the first to say ST, going against P's that won't make a roster, mostly pointless. Though when a decision between one and another not sure what else to use.

With that being said, I've seen enough of Holiday to know he's not a ML catcher. He could hit 10 more home runs and he's still better not making this team.

Early in the off season, there was talk of the Rangers wanting him.

Here's my take. The Tigers released Jeffry Marte over Holaday because they didn't have room on the 40-man roster. If you now designate Holaday for assignment, what was the point of designating Marte for assignment?

Holaday won't generate much in return and preferably not someone who will occupy the 40-man roster. As spring training goes along, there will be other "back up" catchers that get designated for assignment. Even Saltalamacchia was released just 1 month into last season. Just my opinion, but if the Rangers actually did want him in December and we did nothing, then that is another sign this organization is not very good in making transactions.
