Stafford first Lion QB in 44 years.....

Agreed. He does for his production.

I still put a good amount of blame for that on the old pay scale.....but....what can ya do.

I hate keep on blaming the old pay scale 7 years later. If he would have got a new rookie pay scale when he was draft he'd still be getting paid at this point.

Stafford has been the full time starter (because of injuries) of the Lions for 4 years. They have made the playoffs twice.

That's 2 out of 4.

How can you say either is the norm?

Based on that logic Joe Lombardi is an elite coach. He's QB coach at NO, Brees and NO are an elite team, he leaves they can't win worst division in football. Joe comes to detroit and the Lions go 11-5 and make the playoffs. Go Joe..

Part of being good is staying healthy. 6 years he was #1 QB, 0 playoff wins.

Not overpay him on second contract...😶manage your cap where you aren't over a barrel and have to do bad deals. 1 more year and another sub 90 rating year, cut him.

Look at a cheaper option to come in and be a game manager, you can find a cheaper QB to be an averageish QB.

Part of being good is having your LT whiff on a block against Julius Peppers and have that 280lb guy drive your shoulder into the ground??

I did not know that.

I wonder why people don't talk about what a shitty year Tom Brady had in 2008. That guy sucks!

That's a completely different subject. nobody was arguing Brees' legacy. You said Stafford "quit on his team for 8 weeks". I was just making sure the argument you're making goes for everyone that lost a few big games THIS year.

I would like you to explain your argument about Stafford quitting on his team. How?

50% completion over the last 8 games=bad, and definitely puts him out of an elite play conversation. That's worthy of a benching imo

Well he didn't have a good year but it's not talked about as much because he's HOF QB..he's the complete opposite of Matt who had a great year and the rest not so good.

That's just the way it is..

If Stafford got paid on the new wage scale, his cap number would have been about 8 million dollars lower each year these past two years and 2 million less this year. The first contract makess this second contract seem bigger. This second contract is a 3 year deal but they got to spread the signing bonus over 5. If we didn't have the 8 million from the old rookie wage scale counting in 2013 and 2014, we could have frontloaded his base salaries more instead of backloading to 2016 and 2017 and therefore wouldn't have over 20 million cap hits those years.

Stafford's big cap number now and the next 2 years, the sole reason is the old rookie wage scale.

It may say 3 year 54 million. But truly they spread alot of it over 5 years (27.5 million). It was a 5 year 54 million dollar deal. It's backloaded because of the restructures due to the old wage scale when we needed room in the past.
