Stafford first Lion QB in 44 years.....

Or poor play calling.... If there's one person I'd like to blame more than Stafford, it's Lombardi

Bell 3.8 YPC on 1st, 3.9 on 2nd
Bush 3.4 YPC on 2nd and 4.6 on 2nd (17 carries)

Murray 4.9 YPC on 1st and 4.3 on 2nd down
Lacy 5 YPC and 4.4 YPC on 2nd down.

This is the most accurate post I've read in a couple days.

I despise Lombardi as much as I love Austin.

The QB is going to shoulder a good part of the blame for an underachieving offense, as he should......but it's hard to ignore the fact that the offense was extremely vanilla....at BEST.

The entire coaching staff shit the bed in the 2nd half against Dallas. Austin DESTROYED that Cowboy offensive line with his blitz packages in the first half, and I cant remember more than one or two blitzes in the 2nd. Why go away from something that the opponent couldn't figure out how to handle?

Lombardi called what might have been the most conservative 2 quarters of football the Lions played all year.

They can't prove me wrong. They want to but they can't which is what brings them back time and time again. Stafford is a good QB, borderline elite. The game tape backs it up. The coaches back it up. The players in this league back it up. It's such a shame when fans don't realize how great they have it with a QB. Stafford is so under appreciated. Caldwell said so himself.

It's because you can't PROVE an opinion wrong. Your opinion is that Stafford is great. To you, Matthew Stafford is responsible for......

1. The sun rising.
2. The eventual cure for cancer.
3. The wheel, fire, penicillin
4. 100% of your orgasms

People think you're full of shit because you argue your own "facts" (true wins, true completion %.....) and disregard any actual facts that might go against your beliefs.

We whipped Green Bay at home 40-10 and swept Bears and beat Vikings in the game that mattered at the time n Week 1.

Lions were the injury depleted team in Week 5 and Week 17.

Still had to face 10 other tougher teams.

Greenbay and every other NFL team is riddled with injuries in week 17. They gave up a 2(?) game divisional lead over the last 8 weeks. That doesn't say anything good about Stafford, at all. It's shows he's nowhere close to elite, as a matter of fact. He quit on his team for 8 weeks. That is a huge problem

So you're saying Drew Brees is nowhere near elite and gave up on his team for 17 weeks??

Brees couldn't even go .500 in the worst division in football.....and N.O. lost every big game nearly all year.....including a collapse against Stafford and the Lions.

get that logic out of here... nobody is allowed to use logic when blindly bashing Stafford :p

fair enough... i was just meaning that Rodgers is a little bit overrated in that he gets treated like the best QB to ever play the game, when, as good as he is, he still has flaws.

again, i agree with you that he has earned a certain bit of protection for being extremely good. but when breathing on him warrants a 15 yd personal foul to extend a drive (extreme exaggeration, i know) instead of them punting, it seems the protection is being taken a little too far. would Big Ben (who is in that borderline elite category) get the same treatment? doubtful

While I recognize "why" he gets the extra protection, I don't think he "deserves" it.

They should all play on a level field. What you said was exactly right, he gets drives extended all the time from the protection calls. He's harder to stop because of it.

It's an unfair advantage no player should have, but the best of them have it and always have had it. I've never seen a below average QB get the benefit of the close calls.

He's got a ring, and wins playoff games. How people look at his career and how he was as a qb is set in stone.

Now I don't agree Stafford quit, but come on, Brees vs Stafford isn't a fair comparison. For one a season like that is the outlier, for the other it's the norm and describes his career to date...disappointment.

That's a completely different subject. nobody was arguing Brees' legacy. You said Stafford "quit on his team for 8 weeks". I was just making sure the argument you're making goes for everyone that lost a few big games THIS year.

I would like you to explain your argument about Stafford quitting on his team. How?

Stafford has been the full time starter (because of injuries) of the Lions for 4 years. They have made the playoffs twice.

That's 2 out of 4.

How can you say either is the norm?

here is the norm...he can't lead his team to a victory vs. teams with a winning record. 3-32 overall and 0-18 on the road.

I guess if the subject being discussed was if Stafford was good on vs. winning teams.....but it's not.

Good for you!!!

the norm for him is also to be a middle of the pack QB except for one year. He has "lead" the team to the playoffs 2 times in his 6 seasons but lost in the first round both times. He was injured for most of one season but did play in 10 games in the other. He is has proven to be an average QB during his first 6 seasons...well average vs. teams at or below .500

Ah yes.....10 games his rookie year.

So what your saying is you expected the 20 year old rookie to lead the previously 0-16 Lions to the playoffs??

Well, Andrew Luck took a 2-14 team to the playoffs as a rookie. That is what a #1 pick is supposed to do....turn a franchise around. Stafford has been here for 6 seasons and they still haven't won a playoff game in 24 years!

Avoiding the question.

Good job.

And Stafford did turn this franchise around. If he hadn't, you wouldn't be expecting playoff wins.
