Stafford gone to rams

I just disagree. We are not contending next year anyway so moving the picks down the road is ok with me. This team needs a lot of bodies. It’s not like Goff can’t be a bridge qb, and be serviceable. We need the 2021 draft to get hot so we can move the #7 pick for more picks. We will have to wait and see how Goff performs. Maybe it lights a fire under his butt to prove he is better then Matt. You act like the Lions were one or two guys away from contending and we are not.

right Bob....the team needs a lot of bodies and with Goff on the team we cant sign any of them!

Wr1 Gone, WR2 Gone, Griffen Gone, Okwara Gone. No $ to resign ANYONE! As of right now that puts Cephus as your #1 WR lol. No additional draft capital until rd 3. That might get you Eskridge WR from Western Michigan. Goff is not worth being in cap hell. This is why we wanted Stafford gone in the first place. You were better off just keeping stafford. It puts the entire rebuild on hold a year. One of the dumbest things ive seen a new GM do....they dont have a lot of time in the new era.....to put everything on hold a year is asinine.

what kind of return do you think you can get for #7?

it is not asinine. We are not in cap hell. We are actually is very good shape with the cap coming up and if we want to sign anybody you can always backload contracts, but we shouldn't be signing anyone that is not in long term plans.

Washington offered just Pick 19 and a 3rd round pick.
Panthers offered the 8th pick and plus a later selection

Lmao
These are not better deals.

Shhh, Lions fans like to complain about things more than anything else.

I don’t see what the problem is. Fill holes with scrubs in 2021 and lock in a top 3 pick. Even if the Lions had the space, what FA would willingly sign here long-term with the current state of the team?

Winning is nice but I’m on the tank-for-picks bandwagon right now.

Depends on who falls. If there's only one QB left of the big four and a team really loves them we are in the perfect spot ahead of Carolina and Denver.

I think New England is the most desperate team in the NFL for a quarterback, and they have got to come out of this draft with one. If you can get a couple teams involved, we could get some good value. Maybe drop down to #15 and get their 2nd this year and throw in a 3rd in 2022 if we have competing offers. Washington is probably looking at a 1st this year and next to move up. Maybe even get Denver to bite to jump Carolina and get an extra third this year and stay in the top 10.

I'm on board with you. I got my eye on the future. Shed the dead weight this year(Trufant, James, Nick Williams, Coleman, etc), take on the dead cap now and open things up in the coming years. Get a top 5 pick in 2022 and now you are adding a lot of young talent.

Goff's cap hit is $5 Million more than Stafford a year. You think you rebuild through free agency? Goff has an expiring contract, just expires 1 year later, his contract is actually good for the Lions in that it will enforce some discipline to not go out and spend money on free agents who will be FAs again by the time you're contending.

You rebuild through drafts picks, you don't see franchises rebuilding by early FA signings. Cleveland is the latest case of a successful rebuild, it was done through the draft, not FA, the 1 big FA they traded for and signed early has been a bust for them. The 2nd big FA they signed at LT was just added this off season and was there to join all the other pieces they had in place, he was first team all pro this season.

The rebuild starts now, with the upcoming draft. Lions now have 4 of the top 90 picks this draft. You try to get 4 starters out of that. They're delaying nothing. And if they see a star they really want, they now have 4 future #1 picks they can deal to move up.

Who cares about the next two years. No free agents is coming until we start winning. You act like we are WED to Goff for the next 8 years. It?s only going to be 1 to 3 years tops and probably less if he sucks. You have to build through the draft and supplement with free agents.
We need picks not cap room. I don?t get it. You wanted Matt gone more then most on this board and when it finally happens you can?t stop complaining about it . The deal is a good deal and it?s not like we took on a 5-10 year contract.

what if 2 QBs are still there (Fields and Lance). If both are still there and you have the #8 pick as well, the "re-build" is essentially moved up a year with the haul of picks you could get for #7 & #8. Probably still getting 2 impact players this year along with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd round picks. Could easily get future 1st round picks if that's what they want. I could see the Wash, Indy or NE packaging 2021 and 2022 firsts to move up.

#8 is equal to two future first round picks...maybe better.

You think Golladay wanted to come back to this organization? lol

You think Golladay wanted to come back to this organization? lol

And Galladay is not worth top 5 WR money which he is going to command. He still doesn't get open enough and relies on catching the ball in traffic too much, that's not sustainable and he's always injured now too.

Resigning a player like Galladay is exactly what the old Lions would do, overpay for someone just so the fans would have some reason to watch. The Lions shouldn't be in the market for any big money free agents until 2022 at the very earliest.

You think Golladay wanted to come back to this organization? lol

You lose all your chips when you cant even tag him. lol. All this because of Goff. Hes not worth it. You guys all keep pretending like hes some stop gap. Holmes LOVES him. This is a serious red flag when your HC hates this guy so much he will mortgage the entire future of his organization and our dumbass GM trades for him putting your team in cap purgatory.

Not true....when you trade stafford away...POOF his cap hit is gone. Trade stafford to Carolina all you get is the 19 mil dead cap hit. Now we get the 19 mil plus Goffs 25 mil. $44 mil to QBs this year and no one on here even thinks hes a long term solution lol.

Trade for 8. Pick a qb and have a rookie qb contract PRIOR to the new cba. Have picks this year to make a difference. Start the rebuild now.

Instead we have goof, are in cap purgatory, and cant even resign our own meaning theres even more holes than we thought.

start enjoying Cephus bro.

I see Goff starting the next two years at QB. We may draft a QB in the 2022 or 2023 draft depending on Goff's production. I'm hoping for the best with Goff but I do not have any expectations for good production.

As far as our FAs, I would only try to sign Marvin Jones. Golladay doesn't deserves the top WR $$ that he is going to get. Okwara isn't worth his typical production. He got a lot of sacks in a contract year. Griffen is too old.

I don't think signing FAs will be as difficult as past years. With the salary cap dropping, it puts a lot of teams in salary cap hell. The Saints are $100 million over the cap. We may be able to sign some decent FAs are a great deal since no one has cap space.

It's a rebuild, Golladay is off the table

Pick Devonta Smith and defense day 2 with Holmes who can actually make good picks on day 2 and day 3.

Smith, Hock, Swift for Goff. Above average Oline with no personnel changes just scheme changes

Can get 28 million in cap space cutting people we want to cut or pay cuts.

Also depends if cap is 175 million (10.9 over prior to cuts), 180 million (5.9 over) or 198 (12.1 million under) plus 28 million from cuts. So could be at 40 million under. That is room for Golladay if you wish. 180 or 198 is what I have seen more expected

They can add other cheaper WR free agents too. Doesn't HAVE to be Golladay or Godwin or Allen Robinson

We will not be good in 2021. Could tag and trade Golladay still actually too. 17 mil only temporary on the books. Trade him for a 2nd round pick

So 1 more pick this year is the difference to you? Because Cap means zero right now to a team starting over. Trade for the #8 and you think we get a Qb at 7 or 8? What if we don't like the QBs in this year's draft? And we still have to go out and find a QB, hell, Teddy Bridgewater is making $21 Million a year.

You think the Lions should go out right now and spend $16 Million a year on a WR? Spend $12 million a year on a safety? Really? While we're still paying Trey freaking Flowers $18 Million a season for a sack every fourth game or so.

As I said, the Cap means nothing to a team in year 1 of a rebuild, spending on FAs should be avoided at all costs. If the Lions new front office starts reworking deals so they can add high priced FAs right away it means they're totally clueless and are doomed.

There's no time value of 1st round picks in the NFL, future picks don't lose value, they sometimes get traded as such because NFL GMs feel an immense pressure to win right now, those GMs usually regret those trades.

the future first round picks are less valuable for exactly this reason. 95% of teams are in win now mode on draft day. GMs value a pick on draft day more than they do for the same round pick in future years.

I do agree with the opinion that future first round picks are valuable to the Lions. I just think that the Lions could have flipped #8 for more value than Goff (which has negative value because of his contract) and the picks that they actually got.

Lions QB Matthew Stafford, in 166 starts, has only had a 100-yard rusher 11 times.

Amazingly bad support
