Stafford gone to rams

this could be a very good point. It's like running backs with Kyle Shannahan. His schemes make anybody look great but without him RBs pretty much suck.

Time will tell. I still contend that the difference between Matt and Goff isn't very significant. Certainly worth the 3 draft picks they got for the trade.

Ya i can fully admit I'm just butt hurt that we don't get immediate satisfaction from this deal. The value is there in the deal...we just have to wait 3 years to see it. And hope goff fails lol.

Gotta hope that Fields or Lance is the last QB standing when the Lions pick at 7. Maybe get a little bidding war between Denver, Carolina, 49ers, NE and the Redskins.

possible returns
Carolina #8 and a 3rd
Denver #9 and a 3rd
SF #12 and #43
NE #15 and a future 1st
Skins #19 a 3rd and a future 1st (probably a little too far down to get an impact player)

Lol everyone assumed pats this great org. So glad to see stafford said no thanks

I haven’t really seen people bring up the fact that with the way this whole draft process is gonna be this year, wouldn’t it be better to have future picks? No in person interviews, no combines, no private workouts. it is going to be tougher to hit on players this year because of that.

Also would it really be that bad if Goff played well for us and we didn’t need to get a young guy right away? I personally am not a fan, but what if getting traded lights a fire under his ass and he starts playing like he has shown he can. Would it be that awful to have a qb who might not be a star but can play like a top 8-12 guy, but doesn’t have the ceiling of the rest of the top QBs. You can still win with those guys if you build a good team around them.

I think we are in a good position to focus on building this team the next couple years and not worrying about getting a quarterback just to have a young guy. Wait until you find the guy you think is a franchise guy and go get him, don’t just take one to have one.

Yep Lions have options.
If Goff good, no QB may be necessary. Goff under contract 4 years at cheap starter money, just not rookie contract money (27.8 in 2021 (10th cap hit currently), 25.5 in 2022 (12th highest cap hit currently), 25 in 2023 (8th cap hit currently) and 26 in 2024 (4th out of 4 QBS only signed through 2024)
And those cap hits get lower as other QBs get paid. Dak, Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Cousins again in 2023, Stafford new deal 2023 or sooner, Derek Carr in 2024). Also will Tua, Herbert or Burrow get paid big money after 3 seasons (after 2022 season, before 2023)
2021 QB on table though less likely
2022 QB on table two different picks
2023 QB on table two different picks

So many options for Detroit to find a QB

And agreed on the new draft process this year. Will make it tougher to get info.

My prediction...

Goff returns to all pro form after being tossed aside. In that case, we get an all pro, franchise qb, 2 1st rd picks, and a 3rd rd pick for a QB that doesn't want to be in Detroit.

If Goff is even a decent QB, we just robbed the rams blind.

Icing on the cake... stafford blows out his knee. Rams suck...we get a top 10 pick.

Will be tough if they dont' get him WRs or defense or run game. But that would be awesome. He is 26 and his cap hits are good for being a starting franchise QB for 4 years. Heck if Goff is above average, I think its a fleecing of the Rams. Though Stafford is worth alot, like the Stafford lovers know.

I'll be interested if Stafford can be all pro with McVay. Or if McVay has been figure out. Rams are losing passing game coordinator Waldron already and their stud DC. Changes for them too

Rams lost their stud DC in Staley. They lost passing game coordinator Waldron

Leonard Floyd, John Johnson and Troy Hill are free agents.

Rams were down enough in 2019 to miss playoffs. Tough division

Gonna get real interesting and see what Stafford can do

Rams play NFC West twice, NFC North (yep against Lions, but also Packers, Vikings and Bears) and AFC South next year (Titans, Colts, Texans revamped?, Jags)

Rams average defense in PPG in 2017-2019 (4th turnovers forced though 2017), 2018 (3rd in turnovers forced), 2019 (9th in turnovers forced). Turnovers really helped Goff

2020 (11th in turnovers forced but 1st in PPG defense with Staley). 10th in rushing yards per game but Goff too many picks in 2019/2020

Rams run game in 2017 8th in rush yards per game
2018 (3rd in rush yards per game)
2019 26th in rush yards per game and only 3.7 YPC

Looks like Goff wasn't the only problem especially 2019 run game

Goff sacked 25, 33, 22 and 23 times. Pretty good protection overall too

Being tossed aside is a hell of a motivation. He'll work harder than ever this spring and summer. His words to a reporter about being in a place he is wanted says all i need to know.

If he sucks...so what? Then we take our lumps with him, get top 10 picks plus the rams pick for the next two years and build the rest of the team.

Top 10 pick after going to the playoffs? Thatd be amazing. I know im dreaming, but we have a lot of kneecaps to bite

Honestly there probably isn?t a post of this thread I agree more with. My expectation going into the season if Goff is starter is this. If he outperforms and does great that?s awesome maybe we have something. If he doesn?t and faceplants then who cares we can draft his replacement if we don?t this year. He was essentially a throw in in the trade as a salary dump. Like Campbell said they aren?t looking to be active in free agency unless the player fits our long term goals. My guess is they might sign one big free agent (Marcus Williams/john Johnson). There is a lot that needs to happen yet but I actually have some confidence in the direction they are going.

Broncos and Panthers offered 1st rounders and more. Srsly fuck holmes. Can we vote him off the island before march and do a different deal?

Report: Washington’s offer for Matthew Stafford ‘was better’ than what Lions accepted
