Stafford gone to rams

Stafford didn?t want to be here anymore. It was public. There was talk teams were offering a 2nd and a 3rd for him. We got two firsts and a third and a serviceable QB on an expiring contract. If you don?t think that?s amazing, I don?t know what to tell you.

Plus I believe that Stafford's wife had some influence on Matt's request to be traded. She was feuding online with Lions fans for most of '20 over pandemic-related restriction issues. But his trade to liberal LA ain't likely much better for her sake.

no, Mitch is right. You won't find a trade partner to give you a first in 2021 for a future first. A first in 2022 is worth a 2021 2nd. But that doesn't matter for the Lions. They need all of the draft capital that they can get, so future firsts are great.

I think it?s bullshit of the trade value chart. That thing was made ages ago. For instance would Miami?s 3rd overall pick only be worth a second from last year? Hell no.

We might think that but others think he is. I've hears lots of "very good, some great, a couple stars, and generational." I rather of had WFT 15th pick.

What others? ESPN trying to hype their stories? Stafford was OK last season, a bit better than Goff statistically, but not a lot better. And the reason why Goff was viewed as a failure last season is because he has regressed so much from his previous elite level.

Goff likely isn?t our QB of the future, but neither was a 33 year old Stafford. The Rams aren?t getting a QB who?s shown he can do it in big games yet, he?s prone to late game brain farts and game ending INTs. Superb arm talent, but this is not an elite QB and he has never been an elite QB. I call elite top 8 in the NFL, Stafford has never been that.

Wilson, Mahomes, Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Watson, Roethlisberger, Prescott, and Jackson have been the best 9 QBs in the NFL the last few seasons. Stafford was behind them in a group with Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, David Carr, and Phillip Rivers. Josh Allen probably replaces Brees in the top 5 going forward. Murray is probably a top 10 QB now. So Stafford is competing with guys like Ryan, Carr, and Cousins for 11th best. And there are several young up and comers teams might take over Stafford too.

Until last season, Goff was considered a top 10 QB.

Great trade for both teams. Stafford instantly boost the Rams Super Bowl odds. We got 2 future first, a 3rd this year and a overpaid NFL starting caliber QB.

We’ll have 5 first round picks in years 1-3 on their rookie contract when Goffs contract becomes non guaranteed. We’ll also be able to rid ourselves of the Flowers contract at the same time. That’s big!

First of all, that is Houston's pick that was traded to Miami for a LT. So, Houston believed that having a bird in the hand (the LT) was worth two first round picks. Now, did it end up being a good trade...well, not for Houston, because they ended up sucking.

Put it this way, would you trade the #15 pick in this years draft for the (pick random team) the 49ers 2022 first?

Look at the history of trades that involve just draft picks, the future picks are in rounds ahead of the current pick that is being traded away.

Rams only behind chiefs and bucs for super bowl odds. That is how good stafford is

Two 1sts, 3rd and somewhat proven young qb for stafford. That ia great value. 1st is a 1st especially since lions are looking long term

We have a playoff winning qb starter on our roster now..you guys have been clamoring for that for years. Suddenly you have a problem with that lol

from what I read they went from +1800 to +1500...not a huge jump.

8th to 3rd best odds. Lions just needed run game and defense and they could have been 3rd..glad stafford finally got the long term run game and d he deserves with weapons and good scheme. Perfecr situation for him. Looking forward to him excelling. But in the end have to hope for rams losses to help lions 2022 and 2023

You don't rebuild with a $25 mil qb on your roster. We tried that the last 12 years with statford. It doesn't work. Zero cap space. And a 3rd rd pick lol. You're not rebuilding shit. He just put this rebuild on hold a year to help his former team. Why would anyone be happy with that?

Yes I understand they drop in value for future years. I don?t think the drop for first rounders is quite as vast as other rounds considering first rounders are typically the highest rate of successful star players by a wide margin. You would have to show me where a 2nd round pick was traded for a future first standalone.

Explain how it is on hold a year. Once again you?re ignoring the fact the lions had no cap space for this year anyways and still have to extend Golladay.

Also it accelerates the rebuild after this year with 4 first round picks in 2 years. So it kind of evens out.

Cap space doesn't mean anything to Detroit. Free agents don't want to come here. Unless you are a major, major market, the only way to win in this league is through the draft. The Lions now have a ton of assets in the next couple years to build this thing right. Four first round picks the next two years?? That's freaking huge.

Not only that, if something happens to the Rams (Stafford gets hurt, Donald gets hurt, they underachieve), and that pick goes from like 20 range to top 10-15, that's massive.

But they really wanted to see 8 wins next year dude. It?s so very important lol.

Now I understand the real Stafford hate. They honestly thought that removing Stafford would equal success one year later. Not sure how they came to this conclusion. Clearly they didn?t watch the lions the last two seasons when Stafford didn?t play. The team had no chance. 😂😂 Wow, the ignorance was real with some of these fans.

I know a lot of it is on Quinn, but just a few years ago we had a shit ton of cap space, the free agent market sucked, and we overpaid a bunch of retreads.

You don't build a future through free agency, especially if you are the Detroit Lions. Cap space does nothing for this team.

They still can get cap space
28 million from quin vets we want to cut

Smart to add more fas in 2022 and 2023 to then backload. 2021 free agents maybe 1 or 2 building blocks but not doing the 10 starter change this year

Remember it?s not a re-build but a re-tool. Lol
