Stafford Tops Sporting News' Overrated QB List

Lions>>>Vikings

Bridgewater pick machine against Lions

Yes the Lions defense was good last year.

If you compare the two in common opponents game. Y1Bridgewater had a better rating than Y6Stafford. Hardly better, but the rook still got him.

Stafford was better on tape considering lack of protection, run game and drops. Teddy B missed some early games too.

And Lions defense still great. Top 5.

Vikings higher drop %
Bridgewater much higher sack rate %
Vikings top 2 running backs produced a whopping .1 YPA more than the lions top 2. Which equals out to about 2 yards a game.

Vikings had 4.4 YPC. Lions 3.6 YPC

Bridgewater had lower drop % 5.2 compared to 6.0 for Stafford

Bridgewater missed NE and at Green Bay games.

Bridgewater 12 picks in way less attempts than Stafford.

Game tape shows Stafford much better decision maker and leads the Lions down the field extremely well.

Stafford>>>>>Bridgewater. Both learned a new offense in the same year by the way. Stafford's was much more complex.

Bridgewater lost to Chicago and it took a OT defensive TD to beat a lowly Tampa.

Vikings had a higher drop % overall. Perhaps they all came in non Bridgewater throws, but pretty safe bet % was about the same for him.

Vikings team had a higher average because Bridgewater is a much better runner than Stafford and they had a larger number of Trick running plays by WRs. If you look at production from the individuals that get the majority of the carries (Top 2 running back options) the difference comes down to two yards a game. .1 Yard per carry.

Vikings were better at reverses and trick plays I will say that.

Bridgewater was also learning an entire new league. He was a rookie. Rookies are expected to struggle. Highly paid 6th year QBs are not expected to play around the talent level of Rookie QBs.

Who had better "weapons" Lions or Vikings?
What team had a better Defense?

PFF has Bridgewater with a lower drop rate than Stafford. 5.2 to 6 like I said.

McKinnon had a great year running for the Vikings. More than you could say from Bell and Bush.

And like I said, Ted B was simple offense and didn't play Pats or at GB.

12 ints in less attempts.

Stafford was the better player by a good amount though Ted B has some talent.

McKinnon had a good year. Had a few great games, but overall missed a lot of game time. Their leading RB in yards and carries had a worse average than both Bush and Bell. Vikings gave up sacks at a much higher rate.

If Bridgewater was playing at this level in year 6, than It isn't good enough. It isn't unreasonable to expect Bridgewater to be the #2 QB in the division next year. It will come down to Chicago Jay Cutler and Detroit's version of Jay Culter (#9), to see who can claim title as worst QB in the division.

Bridgewater has better down and distance. He was picked the same in less attempts. He doesn't lead an offense down the field.

Stafford moves the ball well, avoids turnovers better and didn't have the run game he did. Stafford is the better QB by far. And Stafford was learning a new offense. It was Y1Lombardi offense for Stafford. The run game, protection and drops were not there. Stafford did great considering the circumstances. He's a good QB.

35 TDs and 12 ints and close to 5,000 yards for Stafford in 2015. Can't wait.

Rodgers has had the run support (3 of 4 years), protection (4 years under 30%), decent turnover support (39,23,22 and 24) and weapon health (or depth like 2012 with Jones and Driver when Jennings for 11 and Nelson for 3 went down).
6% or worse 3 of 4 years. 4.8% in 2013.

Stafford has had run support (3 of 4 years). But the one bad year was this year
Stafford protection (3 of 4 years). Not 2014
Stafford weapon injuries (didn't have the depth and it's been many in 2012-2014). This cause many turnovers in 2012 and 2013.
Stafford turnover support (34,17,22,27). Two good years
Drop rate 6% or worse every year

Stafford with run support, weapon health and turnover support. 41 Tds and 5,000 yards

Lions 2015 offense can give him run support, weapon health, protection and turnover support. If they do, we'll see elite Stafford again. Even if they don',t Lions top 5 defense ensures the Lions get 11 wins+

Detroit's version of Jay Cutler, haha love that.

Stafford is the version of Cutler that scores more, stays healthier and protects the football better. And actually makes the playoffs when his defense supports him.

Y7Stafford+ Y2(Lombardi+Ebron) = ?

Easy. Divide both sides of the equation.

Y7Stafford+ Y2(Lombardi+Ebron) = Y7 + Y2?

Y7Stafford/7 + Y2(Lombardi + Ebron)/2 = Y7/7 + Y2/2?

Stafford + Lombardi + Ebron = Y?
