Suh and Calvin, the most feared players in the NFL

Also takes many more than 3, but let's make sure to pay 3 guys 39%+ the entire team's available salary, we're bound to win by doing that! RRROOOOAAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!!

Well, you cant trade Stafford and you cant trade CJ because of the cap IMO. Trade Suh? I dont think you can do that either ...

I know it is a dream to somehow reduce their cap hit, but it really is a problem that will haunt this team for probably the next 5 years minimum and never really be fixed until at least one of them retires or otherwise leaves the team. I like all 3, just hate their cap hit.

I think Suh will be gone after this year. It sucks, but you can't keep all your players. We will just have to take our 3rd round comp pick for him and try and fill the hole. Obviously it won't be at the same level, we will just need others to step up their game.

Yeah really haunting this team. Got Quin and Bush and Levy and Jones when Detroit had Stafford at over 20 million cap number, Calvin on 2nd year of his new deal and Suh on his old CBA bloated 12 million per year contract.

they won't have a complete team, including good depth, with three guys taking so much of the cap space.

LOL. They went on a signed big name free agents despite 3 big contracts already. Depth comes from the draft.

Suh extension gives about 7-8 million in cap relief.

We'll see how they replace Burleson (unless he takes a pay cut) and how they handle the Delmas contract. We need a WR anyway.

The Lions are just fine with the cap. We wanted to lose Peterman/KVB and we replaced Gosder and Avril just fine.

Continue to draft well and completeness and talent is not a problem. Plus it was proven we could get free agents still. We have plenty of other guys on decent sized contracts too in Quin, Bush, Tulloch and Houston.

right, they signed 3 decent FA's and they still finished under .500. They are not a complete team. They suck in the secondary, no WR depth, no depth on the back 7. Almost every loss you make excuses because starters went out with injury. Guess what...that is becuase they have no depth...hence not a COMPLETE team!!!

Slay, Green and Greenwood were good depth. Safety depth they only had to use for one half (and they couldn't bring the direct backup in due to him playing nickel already for Bentley).

No Calvin depth. They'll work on that but not every team has every position set. Who's Russel Wilson's backup. When Earl Thomas went out some safety I've never heard of came in the playoff game.

Lions are more complete than most teams.

Quinn, Bush, Levy, Jones were only around 8 million last year, they will be closer to 16 mil in 2014.
Calvin was only around 9 million that moves to 13 mil 2014 and 20 mil in 2015.
Suh was closer to 10 mil he will be 22 in 2014.

There is no room to restructure Suh. We have hefty cap hits coming up, with very little wiggle room.

Suh is likely gone at the end of the year. We tied this franchise to the offense, be ready to see a revolving door in the defense.

A Suh BIG extension gives 7-8 million in cap relief. Once you understand that then you will realize I am right. It's not a restructure, it's an extension.

Calvin can restructure to for 3.2 million of relief. Stafford is just fine at 15 million (from 17 million). Stafford went down something you fail to see. And also fail to see that Stafford and Suh's numbers are so big from previous restructures that go away after 2014 for Stafford and after 2015 for Suh.

Suh extension, Burleson pay cut or cut and figure out Delmas and the Lions will have plenty of room.

You might be right. You just can't have 3 players at 40% or more of the cap. Losing Suh would hurt but if you can get more depth and a starter out of his money it could be better.

Suh extension gives cap relief. Stafford went down 2 million. Calvin can be restructured for 3.2 million with not much future hurt.

Lions structured these contracts perfectly. Especially Stafford and Calvin new deals.

Plus you can restructure Tulloch, Houston, Quin and Bush if you really want.

Only way Suh is gone is if he refuses a long term deal becuase he doesn't want to play a 3-4 or under a new coach. Lions can give him a big contract per the DT market.

Here are calvins cap hits:
13m (2014)
20.5m
24m
21.4m
17m
18.3m

Stafford
15.8m (2014)
17.7m
22.5m
22m

So in 2016 You're looking at more than 46 million between two players. You want to add to that by restructuring CJ this year?

Extending Suh gives you relief this year but will kill us in future years. The money isn't there. I wouldn't want to kill the franchise for Suh.

When you are talking real life instead of make believe you can come back to the grown up table.

Stafford is unguaranteed after 2015. New deal then and no restructure money after 2014. I gurantee 22.5 won't be Staffords final 2016 cap number. Give him the same deal he just got last year. Cap number would be 9 million in year 1 and 7 million in year 2 (restructure money is what made it larger).

They can handle 20.5 million in 2015. Did it with Stafford in 2013 while signing plenty of free agents. 24 million you look into a new deal or restructure in 2016 with Calvin.

And 2016 for Suh is when his previous restructures come off the books (9 million) so it's just new deal money.

It is well under control from the Stafford deal.

Look at Akins deal. Give him 20 million signing bonus(instead of 15) and it's a 10.6 Suh cap number(instead of 9.6) in 2016.
10.6, 24(possibly restructured) and a new deal for Stafford (9 million) can easily be handled.

that would be 43 million for 3 players. Not bad at all.

Why should Staff get that deal based on his last two seasons..?

Stafford's deal was actually cheap. But you are right. Staffords play the next 2 years will determine that 2016 deal. Lions will be clear and free from Stafford in 2016 possilby if he stinks. So therefore you can handle Suh and his 10.6 million 3rd year number and Calvin's 24 million(subject to change number).

Staff would stil have 10 million in dead money against the cap if we got rid of him in 2016.

Suhs base salary is over 12 million. There is hardly incentive for him to extend. He could get as much if not more by playing out this year and hitting fee agency.

Unless he is afraid of injury, then I don't see why he signs an extension. Plus that is a lot of money to throw at a guy so closely watched, he is a dumb move away from a 4+ game suspension.

I still think he is gone after the year.
