The Official Minnesota vs ][V][ichigan Game Thread

Game notes.
• With Saturday's victory, U-M improves to 74-25-3 all-time against Minnesota, including a mark of 70-23-2 in the 95 games to date that have decided the winner of the Little Brown Jug.

• The Wolverines progress to 6-2 on the season, including a 2-1 mark in road games and a 3-1 record in conference matchups.

• In 47 matchups of this rivalry played in the state of Minnesota, Michigan has compiled a 33-12-2 record, including 20 wins in the last 21 matchups and a 2-0 mark in games at TCF Bank Stadium.

• The Maize and Blue has now won 16 consecutive contests on the road against the Golden Gophers.

• The Wolverines are now 42-9-1 against Minnesota when U-M is ranked, including 25-2 in the last 27 such games.

• Michigan is now 14-4-1 all-time in games played on Halloween.

• The U-M offense has converted on 28-of-29 red-zone chances this season. U-M has scored 21 touchdowns and seven field goals.

• The Wolverines have outscored the opponent, 209-60, over the last 27 quarters, stretching back to the start of the second quarter against Oregon State (Sept. 12).

• The Michigan defense has surrendered 11 total red-zone possessions to opposing offenses, including three against Minnesota. Those 11 possessions have amounted to just five touchdowns and four field goals, including three in three trips by Minnesota tonight.

• Jake Butt hauled in four receptions for 38 yards. The four catches put him at 68 for his career and moves him solely into eighth place for tight-end receptions in school history. Butt has caught at least one pass in 11 straight games and in 19 of his last 22 games.

• Amara Darboh led the way for U-M with six receptions for 73 yards. Darboh has now posted multiple catches in all eight games so far this season.

• Jabrill Peppers' 41-yard punt return early into the second quarter is a career long.

• Peppers played 92 total plays in the game, including seven on offense, which is a single-game career high. His six-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter marks his first career offensive touchdown.

• Jehu Chesson's 13-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter is his first receiving touchdown of the season and the second of his career. He followed that up later with the game-winning score -- a 12-yard touchdown reception from Wilton Speight in the fourth quarter. He now has six career scores: three receiving, two rushing and one kickoff return.

• Chesson has tallied a reception in 17 of the last 21 games dating back to 2013.

• Maurice Hurst registered one tackle-for-loss. He has contributed in that category in five of the last six contests.

• Jourdan Lewis had one pass breakup to give him 17 on the season and 11 in Big Ten play. Lewis now trails the single-season all-time record by just one. Marlin Jackson (2002) and Leon Hall (2006) share that mark.

• In place of an injured Jake Rudock, Wilton Speight came in and completed three of six passes for 29 yards, including the game-winning score with 4:57 left to play in the game. The touchdown is the first of his career. Speight then connected with Amara Darboh on the two-point conversion, upping the Michigan lead to three.

Sorry, im not buying it. This team had a chance to prove 2 weeks ago was a fluke and they played like total shit against a horrible team. Another thing I would like to address is why is our fucking pass protection so bad now, when it was so good to start the year(even against Utah). Mason Cole is getting worse every game and there was no reason we shouldnt have pushed the undersized Minnesota dline around like little kids. Hopefully this team proves better the rest of the way out. Before this game started, I actually thought we had a chance at the playoff if things fell into place. Now, I dont think we beat PSU in Happy Valley.

Happy we won, but my soul for a competent QB. Defense played awful tonight. Thankfully they made the one play they absolutely had to make.

Dont feel so bad now. Stanford should have lost to shitty Wazzu but Wazzu missed the game winning field goal.

You could be right but its not like every team plays their best every game. We did have plenty of tight coverages tonight and were really unlucky in getting a few picks. We did get burned plenty and tackled even worse. Football is funny.. Northwestern shuts them out 27-0. We shutout the wildcats 31-0.. We play well enough to win both the Utah game and the MSU game but a pick 6 cost us a chance, and a dropped snap on the punt the other.. Like Monster said under hoke we lose this game. We lost Rudock, Smith, and Lewis was gimpy most of the 4th..

The Gophers missed a chance to hold the jug for consecutive seasons for the first time since 1962-63.

I just hope this reminds them we have a lot to do and to put nervy into it
I think everyone bought way too much I yo the shut outs

We had some easy wins but we are not handling being challenged by some decent qbs

Disappointed with defense today
Offense has been meh. With misses. Our line is not as good as we thought. Which is partly why RBs are limited

But we are now bowl eligible

And shoukd be sharper now than against Utah

No one should feel bad. Michigan deserves some good luck after the msu debacle
There was some good fortune that Minnesota ran 10 seconds off the clock, cost them one or two snaps. The funny thing is after the review they had time to talk everything over. They really should have spiked the ball, 2 seconds runs off and it would be second and goal from the 1 with a time out. There's no guarantee they get in the end zone though, they just cost themselves a much better chance of it happening.

The game was a lot more than that last drive, both teams had chances to make plays that would have changed the outcome. Close games always leave one side kicking themselves.

That 4th down conversion was really iffy. If they called it incomplete to start, I don't think they would have changed it. Even though he had his hands on the side, that ball wiggled a fair amount when he came down.

I think they said that he has established possession prior to the ball being tackled, I agree with that and it was reviewed.

Well of course you do. You thought the targeting on Bolden was a good call too.

What happened to Wayne Lyons?? Does he play??

We don't need to re hash that but in general, I don't argue calls that are reviewed. There certainly wasn't enough to overturn that catch.

And yet you bitched about the one of 3 called touchdowns that WASN'T reversed...

the first two were obviously short, I don't know what exactly was being reviewed on the 3rd. they gave the FB about 8 seconds on the goal line and never ruled forward progress stopped. I think they were reviewing if he got in or not, I don't think they could review forward progress. Also, Smith was pushing him into the end zone, which should have been a flag, but that wasn't reviewable. at least it didn't impact the outcome of the game.

How about Rudock getting popped in the head? That's not targeting, but whatever Bolden did was??

I was talking about the Michigan Minnesota game, not looking for you to whine about every call in our game. As for the Rudock hit, I haven't watched it again but I didn't see anyone leading with the helmet. they were tackling him as he started his slide, I don't know if there was anything illegal there. Football is a rough sport, people get hurt.

Dubbs may be referring to the first hit on Rudock, the one where the Minnesota player hit Rudock in the chin with the crown of his helmet as Rudock was going out of bounds. That was somehow not considered targeting, though the Minnesota player was flagged for a late hit.

Didn't see that, can't comment. I thought he was talking about the one that knocked him out of the game
