The Official Round 1 Draft Thread

A thought. Didn't Lucas grade much higher at LT vs RT? Maybe they try him there and move Rieff. I wouldn't...but management has commented that Rieff is not necessarily written in stone as the LT. And Waddle becomes tackle depth.

Yes, but he's clearly not as good at LT as Rieff, so in my opinion (which isn't worth much) it wouldn't make sense to move Rieff, because you weaken the QBs blind side protection.

Rieff can play either spot, and probably is a better fit at RT than LT, but at either spot, he's far better than Lucas, who is a solid backup at best.

You guys realize you are arguing over a salary dump, right. We got 2 picks to move back 5 spots....why? Only because were taking on a bad contract for a player they were going to release. For us he will be good depth on a young oline. Was a great trade....but manny shouldnt play unless someone gets injured imo.

All that said. ...he probably is better than waddle....who o never found to be very good in the first place. Mayhews mo isn't to play rookies early though....so all we know....manny will play over laken. Who needs first round picks to be productive anyways? !

Yep, because Warford sure sat out that rookie year.

Not sure what that had to do with anything i said. ...but ok.

I was playing off lkps schtick of not ever needing draft picks because we are a loaded super bowl calibur team with no holes.

"Mayhews mo isn't to play rookies early though....so all we know....manny will play over laken."

Obviously, rookies play when it's warranted. No Reiff didn't play because we had a very good vet in front of him. Swanson didn't play, because we had a very good vet in front of him.

Warford played, because he beat out the not-very-good vets in front of him. I like Manny more than you do obviously, but I don't think ManRam can beat out Tomlinson.

Van noy no
Slay no
Ebron not sure if you call that "starting"
Swanson no
Ansah yes
Reiff no
Warford yes
Broyles no
Bentley no

2 immediate starters in 3 years....again tell me what i said that was wrong?

this is an accurate statement.....cause we all know tony never says ANYTHING pertinent to the actual conversation. If you need someone to bitch at someone bitching...tony is your guy!

Did someone hear a toilet flush?

You're wrong on every level. As usual:)

Van Noy - injured
Slay - started a few games but struggled
Ebron - again..struggled
Swanson - Raiola....sad but true
Ansah - no brainer
Reiff - another vet in front of him
Warford - earned a starting gig
Broyles - injured
Bentley - he was supposed to start? Lol

So Mayhew's "mo" has zero to do with it. And you actually believing and trying to make us believe that Mayhew calls who starts or not is laughable. It's just another conspiracy in your warped childlike mind that you completely made up. You're such a tool.

Keep it up though.....

Backup not rotational guy. They don't rotate guards and centers.

I guess I should say replacement. Can step in for injured player at any of the positions.

Disagree. When healthy last year, he was still giving up sacks and pressures at a rate I didn't like. We need an upgrade at RT.

Manny, when he played RT in Denver, was solid. Not spectacular, but solid. I think he's an upgrade over Waddle.

Your probably more right than me. I just did not like him when he was a Lion before. He did play well for Denver but Waddle has shown flashes of dominance. I guess I should be happy we added depth with a versatile player. I still wonder if everyone is healthy, does he make the team?

Good backup, but being paid as top 15 center or top 30 guard (Both starter money), makes it not a great signing if he is truly just a backup.

Yet people don't want to spend money on a quality backup QB. Yet highest paid backup center/guard is a great signing?...Blows my mind.

To me it is more due to frequency of OL injuries the Lions have experienced. It is good to have little if any drop off across the line when a guy goes down. You don't want more than one backup like that, but one is ideal. Plus if a guy is getting repeatedly burned, you have a chance that the backup will do a little better because a guy might just be having a bad game.
