They did win last year. Still the same dumbass critics last year.

What did they win last year? I'll tell you what.. Absolutely nothing. Say it again y'all. Detroit Lions ,huh good God .. What is the franchise good for? Absolutely nothing, listen to me.

Valenti, "For those reports that the Lions wanted me fired and that's why they aren't here anymore, those reports are 100 percent true."

I hardly consider an underwhelming schedule with a first round exit "winning". Consistent playoff wins and conf championship appearances, that's what I call "winning". Trust is built through consistent success, fans tend to be more optimistic with an organization with a proven track record, this franchise can't even get to the playoffs two years in a row.

Just look at Wing fans (and Tiger fans for a short while), most of them are also Lion fans, but with completely different attitudes toward each team.

I don't know if any here even watched soap opera's but when I was a young kid I pretty much had no choice after school - it's what my Mom watch, Guiding light. It was pretty much hell. But anyway, you could miss a month worth of shows and when you came back you basically didn't miss a thing. Guy still hanging from the ledge, people still having same argument etc.

All reminds me of the Lions. I could have been sleeping the last 20 years and I'd see the Lions are exactly the same. No difference. Nothing has changed. NOTHING.

They didn't win a Super Bowl.

They didn't win a playoff game.

They didn't win a division championship.

They didn't win a wild card game.

They won a wild card spot.

If you really want the 'dumbass critics' to celebrate that, you're the type of fan the Detroit Lions organization loves (and this board hates).

*edit* And before you cycle through your typical "bad luck, bad refs, lots of injuries, etc" bullshit, save it. Nobody here gives a shit.

The dumbass critics bashed during the 11-5 season. That is why they are dumbass. Then they got very happy at 1-7 due to injuries and turnovers.

Detroit need to rid themselves of negativity. Canning the radio guys is a good start.

And then underwhelming schedule is thrown into the mix. Can't even give them credit. That is what is pathetic.

When a perennial loser wins 11 games, fans will be cautiously optimistic at best (because we've been burned in the past). This is typical of fans anywhere, don't act surprised.

Besides, criticism for an 11 win team is a good thing because it shows the fans care about being the best rather than just winning enough. Accepting and praising just a playoff appearance is lemming mentality.

Give them credit FOR WHAT? Having a somewhat successful season and bowing out in the first round? WOW!

Credit for 11 wins. Talking about the schedule is absolute bullshit. They earned every win and Stafford, the defense and many weapons played well. Bell in the second half of the season.

2015 we had a shit ton of injuries (new ones (Levy, Ngata, Walker, Ebron, Pettigrew,Bell,Mathis,Carter) and guys returning not returning from injury to the proper form (Waddle, Tulloch, Bell), Suh got greedy and the turnovers hit (not one player, one or two bad plays from many doesn't mean overall they are bad players).

Ngata and Levy not playing a snap together is an absolute tragedy. There is nothing to be so negative about. And we'll see how they finish the season.

Valenti and Foster roasting the Lions today. Merciless. Airing how they've tried to muzzle them in the past. Calling it what it is, censorship. How they'd receive daily phone calls from Lions brass trying to tell them what they should can and cannot talk about.

Lions organization is a joke and they will be very very sorry they did this, they probably already are.

I bet the station laughed at them when they made the demand to fire Valenti. Hey Lions, Valenti makes money for the station, a lot more than you do.

And he even praised the Pistons (who aren't with 97.1 anymore) for being classy and letting them talk about what they want.

Lions are a clown show.

Radio is media exposure. Media exposure is a "one hand washes the other" affair. When you give a station access to your team, the expectation is better press.

I'd have cut ties too. No team need the hassle of a radio guy making the fans more negative than they already are. It's the right business move for the Lions.

It's called trade-out, and the Lions weren't getting their end of that. It's not a muzzle, it's advertising.

I hope they continue. As much as I don't like those 2, maybe the rest of the league will realize like we do that the franchise has been a joke for far too long.

Ink, going to an AM radio station which does ZERO coverage about sports is not a good business move. Their ego got the better of them.

The Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings didn't care/don't care that 97.1 is critical of them, and they told Valenti as such. The Lions are a joke of an organization.

Back in the day, Detroit sports coverage was on AM.
