I'm pretty sure that the radio station pays the Lions for the right to be the "flagship station"...not the other way around.
Nope, not actually accurate. It's a two-way street.
The Lions give additional access, and it become the outlet for the "official" interviews players are required to do.
But the Lions pay for advertising on the station as a return on that support.
Radio stations and TV stations actually get a pretty hefty stipend for being the official station.
And again, no one should pay for advertising to an opinion based network that trashes their product. It's just stupid business to do so.
Even the idea that fans won't turn away and the Lions won't lose business because of the things being said... anyone remember the blackout games the Lions used to have? When a radio personality uses their pulpit to tell fans to boycott games, yep... fans walk away in enough mass to damage the team's finances. It has happened, it is happening, and it will happen again.
No business owner is stupid enough to pay the station doing it.
