The Ultimate 2013-14 Pistons Game Thread

Andre with 12 points and 18 rebounds at the half as the Pistons have an 18 point lead over Chicago.

Anyone who thinks the level of play in the NBA is down is crazy, these guys are all incredible.

Hopefully the Pistons can complete another 4th quarter collapse

Keep the Pick Update

Several spots eliminated last night, Detroit can only finish 7th or 8th now

8. Detroit
7. Sacramento +1.5gms (2)

Games Left

Detroit
4/13 vs Toronto
4/16 @ OKC

Sacramento
4/12 @ LA Clippers
4/13 vs Minnesota

#7 isn't completely out of reach yet.

The Clippers already won their division and are pretty much set at #3 in the west
Minnesota is eliminated
Phoenix may be the only team left with something to play for

Game 81 (4/13/14): Raptors @ Pistons

With Sacramento's loss, Detroit can only tie them.

Pistons still have a chance to tie

Both teams play their last game on Wednesday

If anyone is curious as to how ties work, the chances are basically split between the two teams.

Normally the 7th worst record has 43/1000 chances, the 8th worst record has 28/1000 chances.

A tie means that both teams would have 35.5 chances out of 1000. A coin flip is used to both break the fraction and determine the order in which the teams draft if neither win a lottery pick.

So if the Pistons tie and then win the coin flip, they'll have 36/1000 chances and the Kings will have 35/1000 chances. If a team above 8 wins a lottery pick, the Pistons get bumped up to 8 and the Kings to 9. If the Pistons lose the coin flip and a team above 8 wins a lottery pick, the Kings get bumped to 8 and the Pistons get bumped to the 9th pick (thus losing it to Charlotte).

Actually, this exact scenario happened last year to the Pistons (tied 29-53 with the Wizards, the Pistons won the coin toss). http://www.nba.com/bobcats/2013-nba-draft-lottery-odds-chart

To put it simply.

Probability of Keeping the Pick
Pistons-Kings tie, Pistons win coin toss: 97.4%
Pistons-Kings tie, Pistons lose coin toss: 83.1%
Pistons finish 8th: 82.4%

The NBA lottery is the stupidest fucking thing ever. Worst team should have 1st pick the second the 2nd and so on. Period.

The NBA is the only sport where a single player can immediately change your franchise. You think there are teams that tank now...just think if they could guarantee the #1 overall pick by tanking.

Game 82 (4/16/14): Pistons @ Thunder

Final game of the season

Maybe the Pistons were tanking all along!! They unleashed KCP once their place in the standings was secure!!

Well that wraps up this season. The Pistons finish with the 8th worst record.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread.
