Get StartedMaybe he is, we haven't seen Kreider play.

I have.
You saw him in a Tigers' uniform?
no...mud hens
I know but as much as I hope he becomes a productive BIG leaguer one day it's hard to know at this point.
Tigers add Javier B?ez - the MLB leader in Defensive Runs Saved over the last 3 seasons and a 4-time Fielding Bible Award winner.
Javier Baez and the Tigers are nearing a deal. It is expected to be a six-year contract worth $140 million.
The Tigers rank last in Defensive Runs Saved since 2016 ... by a LOT!!
Fewest Defensive Runs Saved - Since 2016.
Tigers -352
Phillies -142
Orioles -132
If you calculate based on bWAR: they were -2.7 in 2021. If Baez gets them +4.5 bWAR (about his career average), then the Tigers get +7.2 wins compared to their team last year, purely based on this transaction.
In 2019 Javy Baez was. +31 OAA at SS.. that?s likely the decade for Tigers shortstops.
Javy Baez is my 4th or 5th choice to play SS..however if I told you DET signed a SS for 4 years who had averaged 4.1 WAR 31 HR with an outstanding glove the last 3 full seasons played..nobody would complain much.
From what connected smart people shared with me .. DET offered Correa a ton of money.. more 33M AAV.. he didn?t want to play here that badly.. deal with it people it?s part of the game.
BTW there is nothing on a baseball field or any skill that Javy Baez is not better than Ryan Kreidler? except maybe drawing walks.

This is for the Detroit Tigers fans who believe that Chris Ilitch is cheap.
Btw, the Tigers still need another starting pitcher and potentially another outfielder. Their spending will go up some more...
Current MLB Offseason Spending:
1. #Rangers, $561.2M
2. #Mets, $254.5M
3. #BlueJays, $252M
4. #Tigers, $217M
5. #Rays, $200M
BAL, CIN, CLE, KC, SD yet to make a signing.
It's not official until it's official but reports have Javier Baez making $140mill/6 years with the Detroit Tigers.
Totally Tigers
My problem with Baez is that his numbers are on the decline. It's ironic to me that the crowd that was scared of paying Correa because they have PTSD from Miggy's contract aren't seeing that Baez contract is more Miggy than Correa's would've been. You're paying for what Baez was, not what he is. Where Correa has yet to show any decline at all.
I think the Tigers were 3rd or 4th in team strikeouts last season and now they just signed the NL strikeout king. I dunno. I'm not burning couches or anything but I'm just not liking this deal. I'll wait to see what the rest of free agency holds but color me skeptical to think Al and Chris are going to wow me with the money they 'saved' by going with Baez over Correa.
I like players with good OBP and walk rates, and players who do not chase slop and strike out a ton. Baez wasn't my first choice, and more I look at this compared to what they have put out there at shortstop he is still an improvement Great Defense and Home run power. Just the chase rate low walk rate I don't.

I'm not sure where exactly the decline in numbers is. His last 2 months with the Mets he played great, and walked at a high rate.
Meh they still need a lot more to be a legitimate WS contending team.
