Tigers 2023 Spring Training Thread

Final: Tigers 2 - Nationals 1.

Detroit is 7-6 in Grapefruit League play.

Make that 8 balls for Torkelson at 101+ mph of exit velo. He just flew out 382 feet to CF at 105.6 mph.

Spencer Torkelson barrels this one up - 109.7 MPH and 410 feet - but Victor Robles tracks it down. Unfortunately Robles seems to have been hurt on the catch.

Eduardo Rodriguez's final start before heading to the WBC:

3 1/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. 56 pitches.

Pretty fastball-heavy afternoon. Three solid starts for E-Rod this spring. Nicaragua will have its work cut out.

THE PAST IMPACTS THE PRESENT.

The Tigers may have a new regime in charge but it doesn?t mean that discussion of the old one will end. Scott Harris and Co. will have their hands full of mopping up the mess created by Al Avila and his associates and trying to undo as much damage as possible.

This process will probably take more than a year. There?s that much to do.

It is also a period of reassessment involving not just the roster but the rest of the organization. Are the new people meeting the team?s stated goals? Have the people leftover from the previous management on board with the vision and have they stepped it up?

So why do we have to do this? Can?t we just move forward and focus on the future? Can?t we just forget about Al Avila, Dave Littlefield, David Chadd and all the others?

No, not if we want an accurate read on how much the new crew has to do. If fans don?t see enough movement forward in the beginning, they will wonder and complain about the lack of action by Harris and his new Front Office. But if fans understand just how much of the old has to be analyzed, corrected and redone before the organization can push forward , then they will comprehend what is going on behind the scenes and have the proper context.

Needless to say, there is a lot to do and way too much to identify for one blog. So today, let?s focus solely on Harris? to do list as it pertains to the roster. What does he have to remedy?

I?ve got my list of the top 10 priorities that Scott is likely addressing???

Rather have hit an 80 EV 200 foot single.

as far as the result of a single, you are correct. A single is better than an out. That said, if a player is hitting the ball that hard on a consistent basis, they are going to have way more success than a player that hits the ball softly.

Based on his spring no..

He is hitting the ball on the screws, but the hard hit balls are being caught, soon the luck changes and they find the walls, the ground, or the outfield bleachers.

Yes it?s only Spring Training but so far:

Eduardo Rodriguez
8.1 IP, 7 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K

Matt Boyd
5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 14 K

The Detroit Tigers DFA'd 16 players over the winter so it's logical that this year's Opening Day roster will have a lot of new faces on it. But just how many?

There are a number of new players who are doing well in spring training. If we look at positional players only, there's potential for 6 of them to make the 26-man roster. How long they actually stay there is up to them...
