Tigers 2023 Spring Training Thread

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

The Tigers have sent 8 players to the WBC and cut 6 others. The rest of the spring training attendees now have to step up their game to ensure a place on the Opening Day roster ? or at least put them in good standing so they get the call to come up to Detroit at some point this summer.

The organization has let it be known that tryouts will not be as they were before. They are seriously looking to change the roster and the majority of positions are not slam dunks. Afterall, the Tigers cut 16 players over the winter. It makes sense that a fresh infusion of new talent is in order.

A. J. Hinch is showing his hand just a bit as some players are getting game appearances than others. And that is 1 factor I?m using to compile my list for today.

For the moment, let?s not look at pitchers as there are different qualifiers for them than positional ones. Let?s just look at the latter.

So who may make the Opening Day roster this year who wasn?t around at the same time last year?

I?ve got my list of players who have a stronger chance of being named. I?m basing it on how many games they?ve played in so far, their offensive stats and some particulars that are appealing to the powers that be.

Remember, this team desperately needs players who show promise with the bat and can control the strike zone.

Spencer Torkelson hired a mental performance coach in the offseason. They talk for an hour every week. It's one of many changes.
"The great hitters come out of it, and they realize what they need to do to get back to themselves."

SATURDAY SURVEY.

After experimenting with it in the minors, baseball now has the pitch clock at the MLB level. Some younger players have already had a taste of it but this spring training is a chance for established MLB players to acclimate.

It has been working well for the most part. A few hiccups and penalties for both batters and pitchers. And it appears few players are complaining.

So far, games are finishing in a shorter amount of time and tempos are different. One of the fan base?s biggest complaints has been the length of the game. MLB is attempting to stem the loss of fans by making the game more efficient and watchable.

We?ve seen app. 2 weeks of exhibitions games so far. What are your thoughts now about the pitch clock after seeing it implemented?

What do you think about the pitch clock now that you've seen it in action?

1. Love it!

2. So far, so good.

3. Not a fan.
