Tigers 2023 Spring Training Thread

yup...those hard hit balls that were outs early are paying off now.

He seems to be more aggressive early in the count. Hopefully that's a change that carries into the season. I think his biggest problem was trying too hard to work walks and got himself into bad counts last year.

I really believe our hitting coaches were a big problem last season. Not often you see an entire roster have their worst seasons lol

Days of Roar Tigers Podcast: Jackson Jobe?s injury and another crack at Detroit Tigers? Opening Day roster. 60 minutes.

With the start of the regular season quickly approaching, Mark and Evan take a look at how things are continuing to evolve for the Tigers in spring training.

The guys talk why top pitching prospect Jackson Jobe may miss the entire season and how prospect Colt Keith is hitting into some exciting buzz.

The guys also talk about how things are heading in the right direction for Spencer Torkelson and why the middle infield needs to hit the ground running soon.

Later, the guys talk how Matt Manning's pitching may be turning around, which relievers are on the cusp of earning their roles and why the bullpen may be a bit of a revolving door.

Lastly, the "Days of Roar" duo talk Evan's latest projections for the Opening Day roster and welcome some new but familiar on-air talent to the Tigers broadcasting booth.

Tigers roster moves: Alex Faedo and Edwin Uceta optioned to Triple-A Toledo. Kervin Castro, Miguel Diaz, Miguel Del Pozo, Brendon Davis and Jermaine Palacios reassigned to minor-league camp.

There are 41 players in MLB spring training.

What are we seeing differently so far for the Detroit Tigers in spring training? Spencer Torkelson is starting to pick it up and hitting really well. Multiple hits in each of the last couple games.

And what patterns are we still seeing? Many games with double-digit SOs and less than 2 walks. Translation: a continued failure to control the strike zone. Generally, when the team gets more than 2 walks and single digit SOs, they go on to win the game.

Controlling the strike zone on both sides of the plate is Scott Harris' primary mantra. The Tigers ranked last in it for 2022. But improving is going to take time. We're not going to see those figures budge until maybe mid-season.

Totally Tigers

Tigers right-hander Michael Lorenzen has been scratched from his start. He reported groin tightness. Still needs to be evaluated.
Trey Wingenter will start today.

Riley Greene triples into the corner.

Riley Greene can hit a bit. Stays back and lines this breaking ball to the opposite field.
