WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Today, another opportunity for readers to discuss the hottest topics in a forum where thoughtful dialog and a variety of opinions are welcomed.

Let?s create some running conversational threads. And for those of you back in actual offices, here?s a question to take with you ? or use via Zoom ? as you talk to your co-workers.

Here is today?s topic??..

It is widely believed that the last outfield spot is a battle between Akil Baddoo and Kerry Carpenter.

Both bat left-handed but Carpenter throws right-handed. Defensively, they are almost equal.

Baddoo is faster which may help given the bigger bases and new pitch clock rules. But Carpenter is the better hitter and has more power. He would also have a larger role given his DH experience and Miguel Cabrera?s physical limitations and less playing time.

If you were A. J. Hinch, which player would make your Opening Day roster?

Which player makes your Opening Day roster?

1. Akil Baddoo

2. Kerry Carpenter

for me it's definitely Carpenter

I think we might know what Baddoo (can't) do ... hit. Carpenter, even with his limited PAs, is a marginally improved replacement.

Hopefully someone better than both of them steps of a bus looking for a team.

The hot topic for the Detroit Tigers is who will make the Opening Day roster this year. Currently, there are 41 players vying for 26 spots. But in reality....

Some positional players will get an early audition. Some will either play themselves on or off the 26-man roster. And then there will be injuries that opens the door for others.

This roster is going to be very fluid all year w/lots of movement. Scott Harris is going to continue scouring the waiver wire. This year will be more about working towards a more permanent/stronger roster for 2024 by reassessing the long-term viability of a number of players.

?Vamos, Detroit!

The Tigers will air 22 Spanish-language radio broadcasts this season, available on 1270 AM in Detroit, the Audacy app across Michigan, and worldwide on the MLB app.

This is really cool. Tigers bilingual media coordinator Carlos Guillen will be the play-by-play commentator for all 22 games.

He will be joined by Barbaro Garbey (1984 World Series champ) at Comerica Park. Mari Montes (Venezuelan reporter) will join him for road games.
