Tigers 2024-2025 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender, Awards

I'm not sure Harris brought up Santander as a possible option.. Or Flaherty. I think those two were just brought up my some news person not in the know. Outside Bregman I don't think anyone really knows what Harris is thinking about. I don't worry about it, I just wait and see.

Though on a side note "only .776" on a team that had trouble hitting much of the year is fine.
I understand that .776 is good, but not $200M good...especially for a 30 year old looking for a 6 or 7 year contract.

I made a mistake. Bregman is looking for $200M. I don't think the other guy is. I read that Santander is looking for a 5 year contract in the $20-25M per year range.
Makes sense. At least Bregman is a good defender. And I think he would help. All the guys in the minors seem to play 2B and a couple SS. Not sure we have one 3B prospect.

Detroit Tigers President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris stops by. 42 minutes. TMLR
Chris and Rogelio are joined by Detroit Tigers President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris as he discusses scouting, organization philosophy when it comes to the draft and how the Tigers work on players getting better.

Justin Verlander receives $15 million from the Giants in 2025, which is the same amount of money as Alex Cobb gets from the Tigers (and Charlie Morton gets from the Orioles).

Reports have the Detroit Tigers pursuing 2 significant free agents – Alex Bregman and Anthony Santander.
Both are RHHs as Scott Harris said this team needs to balance the lineup. Both offering offensive power.
Santander is 30 years old and hit 44 HRs w/102 RBIs last year. He had an OPS of .814 which is considered to be in the elite range.
But he is weak defensively with a -7 DRS last year.
Bregman hit 26 HRs w/75 RBIs in 2024. His OPS was .768. He will be 31 in March.
He had the 6th best defensive stats at 3B with a +6 DRS.
At one point, Bregman’s team offered him 6 years at $165 mill and he turned it down. However, his market has narrowed significantly and it’s unclear if he will be able to get more than that now. It is expected that any new contract would probably be around 6 years and in the $150 mill – $190 mill range.
Santander has been offered a 4 year deal at $80 mill which has gone unaccepted. It is believed that his market will be 4-5 years and between $88 mill – $100 mill.
The Tigers still do not have a legitimate heir to 3B. Jace Jung played there for the first time in 2024 and did not impress. Bregman could fill that hole and make the infield defensively better.
On the other hand, Detroit has a number of potential RFs, including Kerry Carpenter who is the team’s best hitter. However, he remains defensively weak although he has gotten much better.
Potentially, the Tigers may be serious about getting both players. However, if they can sign only 1 of them, which player should they acquire?
Alex Bregman or Anthony Santander?

If the Tigers can only acquire one free agent, who should it be?

1. Alex Bregman

2. Anthony Santander
