Here's the catch that makes me scratch my head wondering what the plan is. He has spent millions to upgrade the coaching staff at each minor league stop, extensively upgraded every imaginable form of analytics, upgraded the Lakeland Fla. minor league and Spring Training Complex, put more investments into international scouting, and overall drafting of the right kinds of players to be a top 1/2/3/4/5 team with prospects. Of course this was long over due by possibly decades. The question is why are they hesitant to sign a couple of quality free agents? If they are waiting to have an overabundance of minor league talent that they can pick from for the Tigers and also trade some minor league talent for quality players fine. But the bigger question to me is are they going to sign star players who are ready for free agency like Skubal, or in a few years Greene? If not, then it looks like we will become a team like Tampa and have great minor league development and players who can step in to the majors only to trade them before the enter FA.
Throw all of this speculation out if Chris Ilitch is waiting for their mother to die before spending bigger amounts of money on the Tiger's team.
