Tigers @ Angels 6-1-2016 Game 52

The Tigers real achilles heal Kton rbi= 11 Maaybin =7 Saltamacchia =20 Iglesias =9. Total or 4 players 47 vs 153 for the top 5.

It's almost like when the bottom of the order comes up with runners on they hit with a clam shell. total shut down.

RBIs generally come for the opportunities one has coming to the plate with runners in scoring position. Historically, the bottom of the order have a lower percentage of the plate appearances with runners in scoring position. Additionally, you generally don't have your best hitters in the 7, 8 or 9th spot.

Career with RISP

T. Collins 2.21 PA/RBI
M. Cabrera 2.26 PA/RBI
V. Martinez 2.49 PA/RBI
N. Castellanos 2.52 PA/RBI
J.D. Martinez 2.62 PA/RBI

I. Kinsler 2.98 PA/RBI
J. Upton 3.10 PA/RBI

2016 AL AVG = 3.13 PA/RBI

M. Aviles 3.18 PA/RBI
J. Saltalamacchia 3.22 PA/RBI
J. McCann 3.40 PA/RBI

C. Maybin 3.78 PA/RBI

J. Iglesias 4.70 PA/RBI
A. Romine 5.06 PA/RBI
A. Gose 5.79 PA/RBI

S. Moya 15.00 PA/RBI (1 RBI in 15 PA with RISP)

On average, it takes 3 times coming to the plate with Runners In Scoring Position for a player to knock a run in. Are most or all the players who mentioned below average at doing that? Sure, but you probably could take any team's 7-8-9 hitters and make the same statement.

How impressive has Fulmer been of late?
He's allowed one or fewer runs in three straight starts, in which he's 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA (22.1 IP).

He has an active streak of 16.1 scoreless innings pitched.

He's one of four Tigers pitchers since 1913 to win five of his first seven career games (Suds Sutherland, 1921; Howie Koplitz, 1961; Zach Miner, 2006).

He's the second Tigers pitcher in history to have two straight starts with seven-or-more shutout innings and three-or-fewer hits (Mickey Lolich, 1968).

I remember (whether it was ill advised or not) being excited about his future with the team. Seemed to drop off the planet of decent pitching pretty hard after a couple years. Saw him in an Erie game a few years ago and hadn't even realized he was still playing then.

I hope my excitement for Fulmer doesn't follow the same path.

I said it a while back, but Fulmer will end up being the guy everyone thought/thinks Norris would be/is.

That ESPN 'Van Man' article did Norris a disservice really, because it over-hyped him and people expect too much now. (BTW several people I know really believed he shaved with an axe...) Fulmer was always the real gem of the deadline trades last year, and without the hype to live up to, people can now see what a good young arm he is without all the preconceived stuff for him to have to live up to.

Gotta agree with this. The Mets have been striking gold with drafting starting pitching the last few years it seems. They must have one of the best rotations as far as money/performance goes.
