I Max Gordon have accepted the Hitting Coordinator position with the Detroit Tigers. I?m very thankful for the 5 years I spent at DrivelineBB, not only for what I learned, but the family I gained. I?m excited for the future, and motivated to win at the next level. Let?s ride. #GoTigers

well...I have yelled and screamed to whomever would listen for 6 years about the incompetence of the Avila and cronies FO. Their archaic views of player development and analytics. They have now replaced almost everyone in player development with LAD and DrivelineBB trained individuals.

Several days ago, the Detroit Tigers made some coaching and managerial moves. New AAA Manager, Gary Jones, was promoted to the Detroit where he will be the new 1B coach. He has previous experience as a third base coach, working for 3 years with Javier Baez. His promotion fills the void created by the passing of Kimera Bartee earlier this year.

Replacing him in Toledo will be the familiar face of Lloyd McClendon. Lloyd has been unemployed since leaving Detroit in 2020. He played and also coached for Jim Leyland with the Pirates and Tigers. The two have known each other for over 30 years and are known to be close friends.

McClendon has had 3 stints (now 4) with the Tigers in a variety of coaching roles and interim manager. He was also the AAA manager for 1 year back in 2016 after being fired as the Mariners? manager .

Since A. J. Hinch was hired, the Tigers have systematically been replacing the long-time Marlins/Pittsburgh/Detroit clique of coaches with younger ones from some of MLB?s top teams. McClendon?s return appears to have changed this pattern.

Why do you think the Tigers have re-hired him now for the 4th time?

Why do you believe the Tigers re-hired Lloyd McClendon?

1. His experience as Toledo's former manager back in 2016.

2. His qualifications and skill set.

3. Close friend Jim Leyland's influence with the team.

In our private chat..the name Rick Anderson was invoked..so after laughing for a good 45 minutes..it made me ponder the idea of Ron Gardenhire and Rick Anderson ..and then today seeing Tigers minor leaguers hooked up to core velocity belts and fortune in new age baseball tech.

When you see this please remember they weirdly and maybe humanely allowed the man who presided over 5 years of this fuckery..to stay employed..but bravo AJ Hinch you have done a makeover I could have only dreamed of..cannot wait to see the benefits in player development.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers showed a different side of themselves on Opening Day with gritty, never-say-die determination that allowed them to win the game.
On Saturday, despite the loss, they never gave up fighting.

Over the winter, A. J. Hinch spoke about his attempt to change the team?s culture. He referenced work that aimed at increasing mental fortitude, team building skills, goal setting and a winning mentality. It was an apparent reference to what the roster lacked in the years before he arrived.

We hear it now from the players and see it in their actions.

Over the years, it?s been a topic of conversation during the seasons in which the Tigers were routinely competing for titles. Fans and media did call out players for focusing on advancing their own stats over those of the entire team. The Tigers won many individual awards during those years but not the biggest team award of all.

There were examples of Max Scherzer pulling himself from a playoff game just weeks before free agency, Justin Verlander showing off his latest luxury car on social media within hours of being ousted from the playoffs and, of course, the ?don?t care? attitude and comments by Prince Fielder about having more important things in life when the Tigers got booted from the playoffs.

Could A. J. Hinch be onto something? Could the mental intangibles that have been missing be the key to success going forward?

Is a winning formula more than simply having the physical talent to compete?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.

Ready?
How much impact will the Tigers? increased team-focused skills and mental fortitude have on winning games this year?

How much impact will increased team-focused skills and mental fortitude have on winning?

1. A noticeable amount.

2. Not much at all.
