Tigers Hot Stove 2012

Bottom line is Soriano is perfect for the 5th spot, .830 OPS, will take a few walks [unlike Delmon/Boesch] and actually offers Prince some protection, unlike Delmon, who most pitchers would like to face 9 times in the order.

The killer is the salary, but nobody cheap is going to make an impact, and without an impact, we might as well start looking towards 2013.

I just want us to do something... anything. This current team just doesn't fit. We have to try to do something even if it is a tiny trade.

I honestly don't think we'll end up getting anyone today. 2 hours left and everyone else is making moves instead.

could be how the next hour and 45 minutes play out, but they can still get someone by end of August too.

Remember when I was arguing that Hanley would benefit greatly from a change of scenery? Man, was I ever crazy to suggest such a thing...

One National League General Manager says that Hanley Ramirez has been a completely different player with the Dodgers and adds that his energy level is much higher, writes Scott Miller of CBSSports.com. Ramirez has a slashline of .311/.368/.544 in 114 plate appearances for the Dodgers so far.

If you throw enough shit against a wall some of it is going to stick!

I remember someone arguing last year the change of scenery was what Delmon Young needed. Citing his 178 PAs in the regular season with DET and his 5 HRs in the playoffs. Funny how sample sizes work.

I am embarassed to say that I was on that bandwagon. I thought that he had the raw skill set and would be playing for a contract. I think I was predicting about .280 and 20+ HRs. I can admit...I was dead wrong!

I agree with you 100% on sample size, and that was my point on Ramirez. He was fantastic for far longer than he wasn't, he's still young, and he was clearly in a dysfunctional environment that he wasn't enjoying. I'm hardly Nostradamus here, but I still find it amazing how quickly many were ready to write him off.
