Tigers Hot Stove 2012

With the extension for Hamels I would not be surprised to see them put Hunter Pence on the block since it will be highly unlikely they will be able to afford to sign him to an extension. Would for sure cost us Castellanos in any deal for Pence but hell if were already all in on winning a WS this year might as well given the fact the Phillies are very high on Nick.

Pence isn't worth Castellanos and the Phillies Front office really don't like Pence, they may be inclined to accept a trade of Casey Crosby, Andy Oliver, and Brennan Boesch/Andy Dirks.

Thanks, being out of town I miss a lot of local stuff. Last I'd heard DD said he was all set, or something to the effect.

I believe he said the same thing prior to grabbing Prince though, so let's hope an OF is in the mix.

Daddy Al did say that he thinks we're likely done, but if anything else was done that it'd be for a right handed bat. I'm guessing that's the basis of Henning's article.

They'll take Oliver and Iorg and like it.

Am I right, Mitch?

Short term players are not worth premium prospects even for the best players out there. Pence is not even that, he's a solid corner outfielder. He wouldn't fetch a top prospect for the Phillies.

Yet we give up 2 of our top 5 prospects basically for a rental for the remainder of the year. Infante's market was no more then a 2nd tier (#10-15) prospect. Hell the Marlins got a hell of lot more from us in our trade then they received for Hanley lol.

Could we make a move for Hunter? Yes I am sure we could. Could we do it without including Castellanos? We could but it would probably cost Crosby or Oliver and Garcia.

Apparently I still overrate Hanley, Buddy. I was shocked how little the Marlins got for him given his previous success. Then again, it was clear he needed to go, so I'm not surprised they sold low. I'm just disappointed that we gave up a lot more to get Infante and Sanchez than what it would have cost for Hanley. Sure, they fill our needs better, but I'm a HanRam slappy.

Verlander will be 32 (33 at the start of the next season) next time he is up for a contract. Age should matter in his next contract.

yeah, but its lynn henning. take what the article says with an entire shaker of salt.

edit: also i read the article, henning just says we need a RH OF because delmon and raburn suck (duh, henning) and doesnt say we're actually looking for one.

Basically all they received for Hanley from the Dodgers is basically salary relief given the fact the Marlins are not on the hook for any of Ramirez's salary. If they were to move him for a higher tier prospect they would have had to cover a nice portion of his salary. Its shocking really when you think of it.

Even given Hanley's down production this year he is still out producing Peralta and given his relationship with Cabrera I am very surprised DD did not make a play for him especially seeing basically what the Marlins asking price was.

The Tigers are a bit low on prospects. Even if we got him cheap, I'm not sure DD takes into account he's friends with Miguel as a trading chip.
