Tigers @ Royals Game #8 April 15th, 2022

Schoop climbs the ladder and grabs a sure single away !

Damn Royals were 9-0 against the tigers when holding us to 3 or less runs last season.

Spence homer was 432 foot ! That is a bomb.

Lucky to win with only 3 hits. Ron posted a quote from Lynn Henning . Where are all the position hitters in the tigers organization? We have Spencer and Greene but we really need some more pop !

Kreider has 4 extra base hits of his 9 hits. Clemens is hitting a bit. I do see a lot of K?s in the Toledo stats though. They are 3-6

Kriedler and Clemens are the only two 'prospects' I could see moving up in 2022 but nowhere near to the effect we expect from Greene and Tork.

Dingler could be ready but I don't think they'll use up his service time unless there are heavy injuries at catcher.

Outside of that the farm is very pitching heavy. Outside of some trades or some unexpected improvements elsewhere in the minors, I wouldn't count on much.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers have 3 young starters in their rotation.

The first is Casey Mize. A #1 draft pick in 2018, age (almost) 25 and going into his 3rd (but not full) year. Here are his stats:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mizeca01.shtml

The second is Tarik Skubal. A #9 draft pick also from 2018 who is 25 and going into his 3rd (but not full) year. Here are his stats:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/skubata01.shtml

And last of all is Matt Manning. Also a #9 draft pick from 2016 who is 24 and going into his 2nd (but not full) year. Here are his stats:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mannima02.shtml

Both Mize and Skubal worked with former pitching coach Rick Anderson before the change to Chris Fetter last year. Manning has only worked with Fetter.
But all 3 were coached in a minor league system that has now been changed and updated.

It has been reported that A. J. Hinch and Chris Fetter were unhappy with how the Tigers? minor league system developed its players, esp. the pitchers.
Hinch has said that all 3 came up to Detroit not as prepared and developed as they should have been, throwing shade on the (old) player development system.

Anderson was reluctant to work with Mize on his bread-and-butter pitch, the splitter. After dropping it, he has resumed throwing it this year.

A. J. Hinch had indicated in the past that Matt Manning was brought along too slowly in the minors but now has caught up to where he should be.

Many former pitchers, as well as analysts, mention that it takes a good 3 years before a young pitcher starts to find himself on the mound.

As you look at their stats, and remember how they have performed so far this year, who do you believe is most likely to inherit the title of #1 starting pitcher in the future?

Which pitcher is most likely to become the Tigers #1 starter?

1. Matt Manning

2. Casey Mize

3. Tarik Skubal

4. None of them

that was pretty awesome. So excited for these young players. Can't wait for my favorite (Greene) to come up later this year.

Because we finally drafted some hitters high in the draft. Keep on doing that every once in awhile we'll get better,
